SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT FOR CITY OF THUNDER BAY - KENORA - NESTOR FALLS - DRYDEN - IGNACE - FORT FRANCES - RAINY LAKE - ATIKOKAN - UPSALA - QUETICO - SUPERIOR WEST - RED LAKE - EAR FALLS - SIOUX LOOKOUT - SAVANT LAKE - LAKE NIPIGON - WABAKIMI - GERALDTON - MANITOUWADGE - HORNEPAYNE - NIPIGON - MARATHON - SUPERIOR NORTH - WAWA - WHITE RIVER - PUKASKWA - SAULT STE. MARIE - SUPERIOR EAST - KAPUSKASING - HEARST - TIMMINS - COCHRANE - GREATER SUDBURY AND VICINITY - CHAPLEAU - GOGAMA - KIRKLAND LAKE - NEW LISKEARD - TEMAGAMI - ELLIOT LAKE - RANGER LAKE - MANITOULIN - BLIND RIVER - KILLARNEY - NORTH BAY - WEST NIPISSING.

SIGNIFICANT WINTER STORM LIKELY SATURDAY AND SUNDAY FOR NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO NEAR MANITOBA BORDER, A MESSY MIX ELSEWHERE.

A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM DEVELOPING OVER THE AMERICAN ROCKIES IS FORECAST TO TRACK TOWARDS LAKE SUPERIOR ON SATURDAY.  

IT WILL LIKELY REACH WESTERN LAKE SUPERIOR SUNDAY AND JAMES BAY SUNDAY NIGHT.

AN AREA OF SNOW AHEAD OF THE LOW IS EXPECTED TO SPREAD INTO NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO BEGINNING EARLY SATURDAY MORNING.  

SNOW MAY BE HEAVY AT TIMES ESPECIALLY OVER REGIONS FROM LAKE OF THE WOODS NORTHEASTWARDS TOWARDS LAKE NIPIGON.  

SNOW WILL CONTINUE SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY WITH TOTAL AMOUNTS OF 15 TO 25 CM POSSIBLE ESPECIALLY CLOSER TO THE MANITOBA BORDER.  

BRISK NORTHEASTERLY WINDS ACCOMPANYING THE STORM MAY LOWER VISIBILITIES IN SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW.

REGIONS CLOSER TO LAKE SUPERIOR AND NORTHEASTERN ONTARIO WILL ALSO SEE SNOW BEGINNING SATURDAY.  

SNOW AMOUNTS OF 2 TO 5 CM ARE POSSIBLE BEFORE THE SNOW CHANGES TO ICE PELLETS OR FREEZING RAIN DURING THE DAY, THEN TO RAIN LATE SATURDAY OR EARLY SUNDAY.  

AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF FREEZING RAIN IS POSSIBLE.

AS THE STORM IS STILL DEVELOPING, THERE IS CONSIDERABLE UNCERTAINTY IN ITS TRACK AS WELL AS TYPE AND AMOUNT OF PRECIPITATION.

ENVIRONMENT CANADA METEOROLOGISTS ARE WATCHING THE EVOLUTION OF THIS STORM CLOSELY AS WATCHES OR WARNINGS MAY BE REQUIRED.

THE PUBLIC IS ADVISED TO MONITOR FUTURE FORECASTS AND WARNINGS AS WARNINGS MAY BE REQUIRED OR EXTENDED.
