Mantha concerned Minister's resignation will delay help for Wawa
QUEEN'S PARK - Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Michael Mantha is concerned that Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister Kathleen Wynne's decision to quit cabinet to seek the Liberal leadership will jeopardize the call for help to declare Wawa a disaster area.
“Yesterday, I called on Minister Wynne to promptly declare Wawa a disaster area so the city would be entitled to receive financial assistance under the Ontario Disaster Relief Assistance Program (ODRAP). 24 hours later, she resigns as Minister to run for leader of the Liberal Party,” said Mantha. “Families in Wawa need answers: who's in charge of the Ministry and who's going to make the decision to financially assist flood recovery efforts in the Wawa-area?”
Yesterday, Mantha sent a letter to Minster Wynne asking the government to step in promptly and deliver funds to the disaster stricken area. Under the guidelines for the Ontario Disaster Relief Assistance Program (ODRAP) financial assistance can be provided by the province to affected municipalities for disaster response and recovery.
“The community of Wawa and surrounding areas urgently need the province's help. They are working around the clock but do not have the capacity, resources or finances to repair all damaged infrastructure due to severe flooding last week,” said Mantha.
“The people of this province and Wawa deserve better. Who will help this suffering community now?” asked Mantha.

mallet 11/2/2012 4:01:42 PM ReportThere is a deputy minister in at these ministries, should the political appointee goes away, so really there is no reason that funds should not be forthcoming. Of course they are civil service people so that may mean a delay while they make sure they cannot be blamed for spending money... What a bloody shower that we have as a government...
streaker 11/2/2012 4:03:08 PM ReportWell it seems that all the rats are leaving the sinking ship. Will David "O"
be next or is he just going to stand by and see the ship sink. This has to be the worst government that Ontario has ever had. With all the scandolous things that have gone on with this liberal government I would be ashamed to call myself a liberal supporter. This party should be banned from status and should not be allowed to run in the next election.eg.(they are all running now)
I'm In 11/2/2012 5:17:30 PM ReportI smell a revolution or we should protest against any government that porogues Parliament like Mcguinty did in Oct. 2012, and Harper did prior to his election majority in May 2011. It tells you just how dumb the working poor and middle class are when they voted for these two clowns becuase they are eroding your social safety net in honor of big business, stay tuned more too come.
