Gary McDowell Endorsed by Traverse City Record-Eagle
McDowell campaign continues to gain momentum with second big endorsement this month. Record-Eagle says, 'Gary McDowell best represents the values of the 1st District'
TRAVERSE CITY, MI – Today, the Traverse City Record-Eagle announced their endorsement of Gary McDowell to represent Michigan’s 1st Congressional District in Congress, stating that McDowell, “best represents the values of the 1st District”.
The Record-Eagle also took Congressman Dan Benishek to task over his poor voting record and radical stances on Medicare and Social Security in Washington DC, writing “Dan Benishek … has done virtually nothing to earn re-election to Michigan’s 1st Congressional District.”
“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Record-Eagle,” said McDowell. “No one in Washington is looking out for Northern Michigan and Dan Benishek is part of the problem - after promising to protect Medicare, one of his first votes was to gut Medicare, force seniors to pay $6,400 a year out of pocket and make then negotiate with private insurance companies.”
This is the second major newspaper endorsement of Gary McDowell’s candidacy.
Earlier this month, McDowell was endorsed by the Detroit Free Press, who wrote that: "He would like to reform Social Security and Medicare, but without adjusting benefits ... and free the government to negotiate better prescription deals for Medicare patients."
McDowell is preparing to embark on his final campaign swing.
The “Protect Northern Michigan” tour will kick off Thursday, November 1 when McDowell sets out from his home in Rudyard.
The tour will run through Election Day.
It will include multiple events in both the Upper Peninsula and northern Lower Michigan.
