With the impeding storm warning for the Wawa area, the OPP along with the Municipality of Wawa and Emergency Management Ontario have the following recommendations.

Keep your cell phone charged and ensure that you have an emergency survival kit that contains everything you might need for a period of three days.

A list of suggestions for you kit can be found on Emergency Management Ontario’s website.

The evacuation of the Michipicoten First Nation (MFN) continues to be in effect.

Road work continues on the Harbour Road into the Michipicoten First Nation.

The OPP are requesting that the public remain away from this area.

This will allow the Municipality’s Public Works Department to work as quickly and as safely as possible.

Highway 17 north bound remains closed with the road work progressing well.

Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) advises that the highway may be open to traffic within the next two days.

Highway 17 south remains open with gravel sections.

The OPP and MTO warn the motorists to drive with extreme caution in these areas.

A speed reduction is in effect, with plenty of signage to warn the public of the gravel areas.
