October is wrapping up and hockey is in full swing locally.
The Soo Greyhounds, Thunderbirds and North Stars seasons are well underway while many of the local rep teams have competed in a number of tournaments and exhibition play in the last month.
The Lake Superior State Lakers hockey season is also underway across the river as the Central Collegiate Hockey Association marks its final season before college hockey sees a major re-alignment.
The Greyhounds were extremely busy over the past week. The team departed Wednesday for a three-game road trip. The team opened the trip on Thursday in St. Catharines against Niagara before traveling to Erie to take on the Otters the following night. On Sunday afternoon, the Greyhounds wrapped up the trip in Guelph.
Following the game against Niagara on Thursday, the Greyhounds received word that rookie forward Landon Schiller had been suspended by the Ontario Hockey League.
The Soo Thunderbirds played a pair of games at the Essar Centre as they faced the Sudbury Nickel Barons and Kirkland Lake Gold Miners.
The North Stars exploded offensively as they picked up a pair of wins over New Liskeard.
In the Michigan Sault, Lake Superior State played their final home series against Michigan State while the two schools are still members of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association.
