New fires

No fires were confirmed in the region since the last report on October 19, 2012.

Existing fires

There are now four active fires in the region.

Cochrane fire numbers 32 and 48 are being observed; and Hearst 32 and Timmins 9 are under control.

These fires cover a total of 41,654 hectares.

To date, 948 fires in the northeast region have burned 53,916.3 hectares.

Fall safety

Campfires are often used for cooking and warmth this time of year.

It is crucial to ensure all fires are fully extinguished before leaving your site.

Make sure to never leave your campfire unattended, and ensure it is completely out by drowning the fire, stirring the coals and drowning again.

It is also important to ensure any residue from the discharge of a firearm is extinguished.

To report a forest fire north of the French River, please call 310-FIRE (3473).

In southern regions, forest fires can be reported by calling your local fire department.
