More than 300 participants took part in the 4th annual Soo Zombie Walk presented by the Arts Council of Sault Ste. Marie and District.
In support of the Algoma University and Sault College student food banks, all registered participants - zombies and resistance fighters - are required to donate nonperishable food items in order to take part in the event.
The Soo Zombie Walk continues to grow each year, and a few famous characters joined the local undead horde this year, including Zombie Wolverine, Zombie Thing 1 and Thing 2, and a creepy Silent Hill nurse.
There were affectionate zombies giving out free zombie hugs, vampire zombies, mummies (according to their sign, mummies are zombies too), zombie babies, and zombie dogs.
SooToday.com was impressed with many of the traditional zombies and the creativity demonstrated by a number of the participants, like the one pictured above.
As the horde stumbled its way through downtown, a large and dedicated zombie resistance faction attempted to protect the fine citizens of Sault Ste. Marie from the brain-thirsty walking dead, brandishing (toy) weapons of all varieties - pistols, rifles, axes, knives, swords, and lightsabers.

How anyone thinks this is a good idea is simply mind blowing. Yes, let's encourage murder, disembodiment of bodies and catabolism!!!! This is a sickening, disgusting, immature act but a bunch of people and everyone involved should be ashamed of themselves. One can only hope someone goes "Jeffrey Dalhmer" on you or your loved ones then we'll see how funny and entertaining this is.
The police should keep record of these people. , next time there is a dismemberment of bodys ie. murder in the sault they should interview these guys first , because this is not normal behaviour!! Freaking weirdo's !!
@ Bono : Next time you use big words that you aren't familiar with, you may want to get your mom to check it for you. I think you mean dismemberment and cannibalism, rather than disembodiment and catabolism. Zombies are unthinking, unfeeling re-animated corpses with a penchant for consuming living flesh. Jeffrey Dahmer was a sick and twisted individual who had sex with, then consumed parts of his victims. The two are not comparable.
Wonderful costumes and I too was going to lambaste Bono for his poor use of the English language but you beat me to it... RCamp211 if the Soo is so full of low lifes (sic) move somewhere else and make a life for yourself.... I think the issue with the Soo is the number of narrow minded bigots that's the problem. Great to see lots of food for the food banks, I have spent the last decade in Toronto and am spending some time here for awhile I miss the cultural diversity, it would be great to see more diverse activities, the pride parade in TO is a great time, and caribana, would love to see things like that here!!! Great photos
This is a great Halloween event for a food bank fundraiser. Every one of the people that attend are both creative, and charitable, and it's awesome to see. I wish there were more opportunities to show our communities creativity; our city might end up feeling a whole lot younger :).
---- RE Bono,
Welcome to Halloween. It'll come once a year for the rest of your miserable life <3.
Bono...you're a douchebag that can't use big words let alone put together an intelligent string of them.
This was for a good cause and, you know what??! it's good fun without having people get in trouble...plus, it keeps would-be criminals out of the downtown core for a little while.
