The Congress of Aboriginal Peoples acclaims Ron Swain as National Vice-Chief at the Annual General Assembly
Ron Swain becomes the newly elected Congress National Vice-Chief at 41st AGA
OTTAWA - The Congress of Aboriginal Peoples (Congress) released the following statement today to congratulate Ron Swain in his new position as Vice-Chief of the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples.
“Ron will bring a wealth of experience and confidence to the position. I expect that he will be a positive force within the organization, and I look forward to working with him,” stated Betty Ann Lavallee, the newly re-elected National Chief of the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples.
Ron Swain was raised in Swan Lake, Manitoba, located 160 kms south-west of Winnipeg, Manitoba.
He has five children, and as a single parent, Ron is currently raising three children in Bruce Mines, Ontario.
Mr. Swain was a founding president of the Metis Nation of Ontario (MNO) and the full-time MNO Chair for many years.
This is also Ron Swain’s second tenure as Vice-Chief of the Congress.
A position he held in 2011.
While President of the Ontario Affiliate of the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples, Ron Swain participated in the lengthy and complicated process of the Charlottetown Accord (Accord de Charlottetown).
He cites this experience as his greatest learning curve regarding all aspects of Aboriginal issues.
“Vice-Chief Swain will provide a strong voice for Aboriginal Peoples who live off-reserve. He will continue to help build the relationships necessary to advance the interests and relations of the Congress. I wish Ron all the very best in his new role and look forward to a productive working relationship,” concluded National Chief Lavallee.
The Congress of Aboriginal Peoples as a National Aboriginal Organization represents the interests of off-reserve non-status and status Indians, Inuit and Métis Aboriginal Peoples living in urban, rural and remote areas throughout Canada.
We are also the national voice for this constituency and their affiliate organizations making up the Congress.
