Last night's Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce 123rd Annual General Meeting and 2012 Business Awards were given out at the Comfort Suites & Conference Centre on Great Northern Road.
More than a few people were surprised that this year's ATHENA Award recipient didn't already have a closet full of ATHENA Awards.
Donna Hilsinger, winner of the internationally recognized ATHENA in Sault Ste. Marie, could probably make a shorter list of areas she has not served her community than areas she has made valuable contributions to.
In areas of the arts too numerous to list, in business and in health issues, Hilsinger's contributions to her community, and to women in the community, cannot be understated.
Through the years at SooToday.com, we've seen her sing like a lovely songbird on many occations; host community events aimed at raising awareness of environmental, health and social justice agendas with flair and style; and speak with passion and sincerity about an old friend at City Council.
She has promoted women's issues tirelessly and led a generation of girls and young women to success, fulfillment and hapiness by example, with encouragement and by supporting them in so many ways.
