Monday, October 22, 2012 by: SooToday.com Staff

SooToday.com has received the following letter and photos shown from loyal readers who write that they are the victims of a break-in.
SooToday.com did confirm with the police that they have received this report and are investigating it.
Kaitlin also told us that she and husband James found at least four other similar incidents occured within about a five house radius at close to the time this person entered their car in their driveway and took the cash left there.
"We all had a bit of cash in our vehicles, you know, for coffee and parking, things like that," said Kaitlin. "And, of course, that night we forgot to lock the doors on our car."
If you think you know the person in these pictures, please contact Sault Ste. Marie City Police or Crime Stoppers.

Hi SooToday.com:
We recently had a break-in that for some reason never made the SooToday.com website.
We have security cameras set up outside of our home so that while we are tucked away in the basement we can see who is at our door.
Well, we caught more than that the morning of October 11, 2012.
Several other vehicles were entered that morning as well.
Only cash was taken but our privacy was invaded!
It happened in the Ferguson Avenue area.
It seemed very odd to us that our story never made the headlines seeing as we had sent a photograph with the police officers and heard nothing from there on.
All we got [from city police] was: "If someone recognizes him, he will be charged, after that there's nothing we can do".
It didn't give us much hope.
So after not seeing it we have decided to take it in to our own hands.
I've attached the best pictures of the guy we could get.
It's in infra-red so the colours of his clothes are really unknown.
I believe he's either wearing baggy sweatpants/jeans, a large grey coat, white ball cap and his dark hair is the best clue with the dark side burns.
We're asking if anyone has seen this guy; maybe he's broken in to your vehicle, your home, or even your convenience store?
We have filed a report with the police station.
Anyone with info or knowledge of this guy, we ask that you call the police station with your information.
There are several other photographs we have but those are the best three we could get with the camera.
Thank you for your time.
- James and Kaitlin

Retreaded 10/23/2012 7:57:09 AM ReportFor me...locking the car doors is as natural as putting on my seat belt. One push of a button could say a lot of trouble.
frizz 10/23/2012 8:05:01 AM ReportI am glad both stories were printed. It's sad that we have to take matters into our own hands before the agency we pay to take care of these things will act. It sounds to me like they took the picture with them and then just couldnt be bothered to do anything with it. They have police photos? Start with looking there? In my memory, that officers words have rung in my ears more than once and pairs with their philosophy of collecting stolen goods, stashing them away and them selling them off by auction. That is double theft in my mind. We ought to have a chance to look at these goods before they hit the tables. I keep remembering a friend getting her ring back because it was spotted in an auction. Maybe some of the police should start wearing referees jerseys instead since that's about all the effort a few of them want to put in. There are some who think differently but honestly many of us have been given no hope of effort towards resolution over the years. I hope that character is recognized....
thesharr 10/23/2012 8:14:51 AM Reportexcellent idea, everyone who can arm there homes with cameras and post the pictures, because we all want to know how this nuisance is.
BigDaddy 10/23/2012 8:15:29 AM ReportCongrats to the them! It seems that this is what is now required to protect ourselves. I had a similiar occurance, car broken into and the police said, oh well.
Retreaded, I do find comments like yours really interesting, it shows where society is going on crime...because you don't lock your door, or forget...it's your fault? Obviously we each have a responsibility to mitigate crime but stealing is always the fault of the taker. So if you leave your house door open Retreaded, I or anyone else has the right to clear you out and it will be...your fault?
thesharr 10/23/2012 8:16:15 AM Reporthow,should be who,sorry.
nicole1414 10/23/2012 8:39:04 AM ReportAbsolutely disgusting. Seeing someone go through your stuff like that... it makes my blood boil.
Good for you for taking matters into your own hands, seeing as how the police are too busy to care.

jean-paul 10/23/2012 9:17:36 AM ReportThis punk sure looked at ease.Probably not his first and probably know to the police.
SpongeBob 10/23/2012 9:19:48 AM ReportOur police force reminds me of the one in the simpsons. They seem to carry the same attitude and competency as chief wiggum and company.
Remember, the law is powerless to help you. But not to arrest you .
cityhallguy 10/23/2012 9:39:28 AM ReportBigDaddy,
I don't think that's where Retreaded was going. Sounds to me like he's saying that society has made us lock doors automatically without even thinking anymore. I don't think they were implying that people deserve to get robbed if they don't lock up.
Gibbers84 10/23/2012 10:00:56 AM ReportI live on wellington street on the other side of where this incident has happened and it had happened twice in six months just change was taken.
Regardless of locking doors on your vehicles if he is desperate enough he will start causing damages to the vehicle to get what he wants anyways
Stevie-E 10/23/2012 10:41:09 AM ReportActually if there is nothing in your vehicle to steal...leave the damn doors open!
One @sshole punk took about $6 in change and I was stuck with the cost of replacing the driver's side window because it was less than my deductible. Criminals, if they want to get in a vehicle..will
Insurance companies are good for nothing when it comes to petty s**t like this. The cops are no better either. I guess we need to be more vigilant then.
Stevie-E 10/23/2012 10:42:00 AM ReportFire the photographer or the editor...these pics show me nothing! Brutal!
JustMe1234567 10/23/2012 11:42:02 AM ReportStevie-E- ?? They are photo stills from an infrared surveillance camera of a citizen. What do you want high quality close ups of his face? I think if I knew this guy, I'd know him from the photos shown.
Hope he gets caught.
Kudos to the people that sent them in. At least they are trying to do something.
nobodycares 10/23/2012 12:18:58 PM ReportThe problem is that the punishment does not fit the crime. How often do you see the same name reported within days of the first offense to the second offense.
The police must get frustrated arresting the same person over and over, only to have the bleed hearts let the criminal back on the streets the next day.
geterdun 10/23/2012 1:42:50 PM ReportI cant wait to let my rotty out so he can chase them down and rip the ass out of one of these dummies..and when he is done with them, I to will give them something he or she will remember for the rest of there lives....... Ya might want to be careful who you decide to rip off dummies.......
the coach 10/23/2012 3:27:20 PM ReportPainters'pants and hat. Maybe our police force can figure it out. Any side bets?
santa-fe 10/23/2012 5:01:20 PM ReportLast month I forgot to lock my car. My bad. Someone opened the gas latch and drained my car of all the gas, unfortunatley just filled. Our next door neighbours truck was also drained. There was no inside latch for the truck. I know the price of gas is high but still. One day these kids will have a place of their own, and hopefully they will remember and be sorry.
Working Man 10/23/2012 7:28:02 PM ReportIs it just me or does it look like his right hand is on the vehicle right above the left side mirror?? Then again, he'd have to be pretty stupid to not wear any gloves..
It also looks like he's wearing cowboy boots and his clothes are WAY too big for him... Somebody's gotta know this guy...
The police probably didn't release the picture in the hopes of them linking him to another future crime of his. That way, they can charge him twice.
People please, lock your doors and consider installing a security alarm on your vehicle..
