With 600,000 Ontarians jobless, MPPs should be working - NDP

NEWS RELEASE

ONTARIO NDP

New Democrat Leader calls on Premier to resume Legislature

QUEEN’S PARK – New Democrat Leader Andrea Horwath is calling on Dalton McGuinty to get MPPs back to work after he prorogued the Legislature yesterday, effectively shutting down legislative business.

“Last September voters sent 107 MPPs here from all corners of the province to do an important job. Yesterday the McGuinty government decided we should all stop working,” said Horwath. “I believe that when 600,000 people in Ontario are looking for work, we should be doing the job we’re paid to do.”

Horwath noted that by proroguing the House the government put hundreds of pieces of legislation into limbo and indefinitely postponed a review of Ontario’s Local Health Integration Networks.

The move also ensures that a committee scheduled to look at a government decision into private power deals in Mississauga and Oakville is now cancelled, leaving questions about government decisions and undisclosed information unanswered.

“The important challenges facing our province won’t go away while the Liberals select a new Leader and we can’t go away either,” said Horwath. “I’m calling on the Premier to do the right thing, resume the legislature and get the MPPs to get back to work.”

OMGWTF 10/16/2012 1:09:50 PM Report

The business of government is still going on despite the surprise by DM. We seem to forget that the gov't is managed by staff so everything will keep going on except new legislation and the odd blow-up in the legislature. In fact I bet they get more done.

sinikka 10/16/2012 3:34:46 PM Report

geterdun perhaps her platform will be to encourage cross border shopping . That way you can keep the americans working and the 600,000 jobless out of work in ontario. Then she definitely has your vote
geterdun 10/16/2012 3:50:56 PM Report

Sinnika: unfortunately that is a federal issue my dear..But believe me whatever they do unless they lower my taxes, I will continue to shop across the border just like thousands of other Canadians......Im just thankful I can get a better deal by crossing over, just think of all the poor people in Canada who cant.......

To bad so sad!!!!!!!!

Canadian Politicians ruining our country for their own greedy agenda...........
clearly they dont care so why should I??????????
geterdun 10/16/2012 3:57:12 PM Report

one gallon of milk in USA $3.87
one litre of milk in Canada $7.00 DAAAAAAAAA!!!!
one litre of gas $4 dollars USA $8 dollars Canadian DAAAAAAA!!!!!!!
with all the tax I pay in Canada I am forced to shop across the river...Im sorry but whats a family to do???????
try lowering my taxes not raising them see how that works out for the country and province ..Just sayin!!!!!!its simple economics.......
OMGWTF 10/16/2012 5:24:35 PM Report

geterdun - where do you buy your milk? Macs?? Must be if you're paying $7. I buy lactose free at the grocery store and 1 ltr is about $5 bucks and its always more expensive than regular milk. I buy Premium gas and at $1.50/litre it works out to $5.60/gallon. Get your facts straight.
geterdun 10/16/2012 5:32:49 PM Report

yea five bucks a litre in Canada its 4 dollars a gallon in the USA get it.and gas well must be nice if you can afford premium at 1.50 a litre in Canada.I save 35 to 40 bucks a fill in my truck......GET the point !!!!!!!!!!!
Just in case you didnt know, a litre is less than a gallon....now go do that math.......it equals way more to purchase stuff in Canada......hows that for numbers.......LOL

I bet you one canadian dollar your wrong..you got change for an american quarter???? LOL........
OMGWTF 10/16/2012 7:10:28 PM Report

geterdun - 3.74 liters to a gallon so my math is right. BTW the US gallon is smaller than ours and the liter equivalent
is based on the CDN gallon. Also smart people who like to save money don't buy trucks.
sinikka 10/16/2012 8:12:18 PM Report

geterdun your two faced approach does not wash. Your actions are costing jobs to canadians plain and simple.I have no problem with you choosing to spend your money in the u.s. , it is your perogative but your actions are no better than the government you ridicule.
I'm In 10/16/2012 8:40:35 PM Report

sinikka: you must be liberal your days are numbered like the federal liberals. a bunch of crooks they robbed peter to pay paul. And they caused the economic down turn in the province, so bye-bye
sinikka 10/17/2012 6:39:03 AM Report

Actually i am not a liberal, never was , never will be. I just don't like posters who complain about the government when it is their own actions that contribute to the problems in this country.Brag about how you cross border shop , then blame the government for the 600000 unemployed people in ontario. If that is not two faced then , what is.
geterdun 10/17/2012 5:39:43 PM Report

Sinnikka:To bad so sad......... nothing two faced about it......Im just honest with what I say and do .... you can thank the goverments of the day for the way people shop and spend their money....600,000 jobs lost in Ontario in the last three years ????? maybe you have a better answer for why we are losing so many jobs in Ontario???? I mean like people have been shopping and buying gas over the bridge for eons.....
Best part is you probably shop over there as well so you are probably more to faced in that you wont admit it.....???
ever been across the bridge Sinnikka???
LOL....

Reduce taxes save our province and country......:0 Get it:)
TAXED TO DEATH IN ONTARIO AND CANADA!!!!!!!
