Forest fire situation update - Northeast Region
October 15, 2012 (3:30 p.m. EDT)
New fires
No fires were confirmed in the region since the last report on October 12.
Existing fires
Hearst 32 is now under control.
The 100-hectare fire is located northwest of Hearst and was caused by lightning.
All other active fires in the region are either under control or being monitored.
Regional fire activity facts
There are five active fires in the Northeast Region burning a total of 41,674 hectares.
To date, 948 fires in the Northeast Region have burned 53,916.3 hectares.
Please Note:
As the forest fire season is winding down and snow and rain have swept through the region, knocking the forest fire hazard into low with little opportunity to rebound, these reports will only be produced twice weekly - on Mondays and Fridays.
The Current Forest Fire Situation webpage will also be updated less frequently due to very limited forest fire activity.
To report a forest fire north of the French River, please call 310-FIRE (3473).
In southern regions, forest fires can be reported by calling your local fire department.
