speed7 10/14/2012 7:22:59 PM ReportThat's pretty stupid for anyone to try that on casino property. Last summer they did that in the parking lot which is past the bridge. If you win money and dont want to carry cash in your purse home. Ask the casino to give you a check instead , or if you could possibly leave it at the security desk to pick up the next day. That's an option.
dob131 10/14/2012 8:24:55 PM ReportWhere was security, this happened right in front of the Casino. Don't the security guards get paid big bucks working there? Maybe they should look at hiring better guards, that actually watch out for these poor people leaving the casino. The lady prob lost all her money, and to have her purse stolen? I guess the guards only care about the customers that are spending thier money inside.
AceOfBass 10/14/2012 8:36:27 PM ReportThis is bad for business,tourism,...purse snatching. This sounds like some scumbag druggie looking to make a quick buck to his dope.
OLG needs to up its security of its property and make the area safe to travel.
rcamp211 10/14/2012 8:42:37 PM Reporti had money taken from me at the soo casino also but it was the slot machine not a goof on a bike.
ShowMeTheWhities 10/14/2012 10:12:18 PM ReportThis lady probably has a gambling problem and lost her shirt at the casino and was scared to go home and tell her spouse. Made the whole story up, funny how they don't say this was caught on the many camera's that run 24/7. Probably check in the little rivine thing there and the purse will be hidden around that area. No money and all ID
geterdun 10/14/2012 11:36:44 PM ReportYEA, It wont be long and we wont have to worry about this anymore. The goverment has pretty much taken all the money it can from this area with very little investment (a Tent). The OLG should be pulling out of here very soon now that the goverment is privitizing casinos. The writing is on the wall people. They are going to Sudbury were they are going to build a 70 million dollar casino.....yea thats right folks a 70 million dollar casino.....its already been approved. We got a tent they get an actual Casino with hotels ,restaurants, stores etc........Sault Ste Marie is the laughing stock of Ontario.......
BlackHelix 10/15/2012 5:00:51 AM ReportLOL
Hire better guards....really? I'm curious what that would look like. Maybe you could explain how "better guards" would catch a guy on a bike who was probably gone before they even left the building. Even if they had 1,000 security guards. What could they do? Chase they guy down on foot? Or maybe they could call the cops....oh wait...it looks like that's what they did. How stupid.
mattdoubleU 10/15/2012 7:20:49 AM ReportBlackhelix, are you a security guard at the casino? Lol
cashcab 10/15/2012 7:26:11 AM ReportPoor lady got robbed twice in one night. This is the casinos fault, 100%. They used to give you a ride to and from your car in a cart or bus but they cut that off at some point. I'm quite sure that a private company will do a much better job at running the place and protecting it's victims...I mean patrons.
Moonshiner 10/15/2012 8:19:12 AM ReportGrab and dash is bottom feeder crime ,perps lookin for easy drug money.AS for the casino, goverment controls booze, cigs, gambling, gas, taxes, thats were the real money is!
Justin Tetreault 10/15/2012 8:33:52 AM Report1. The Casino in Sudbury hasn't been approved yet, although the city is on board and a proper location is being found.
2. The province has changed the way it is building/running casinos ie) They are not building them anymore, but instead allowing private companies to build and operate them. The $70 million figure would come entirely from a private company and would include a convention centre and 5 star hotel.
Justin Tetreault 10/15/2012 8:35:32 AM ReportAnd a casino in Sudbury doesn't mean Sault Ste. Marie is losing theirs. The province is also looking to build one in North Bay.
Hatch 10/15/2012 8:58:11 AM ReportHire better guards?
The guards will not be escorting each and every person to and from the casino therefore there will be the odd victim. As it was mentioned earlier, they use to provide rides to and from. That would be the best bet to eliminate this threat.
geterdun 10/15/2012 9:20:16 AM Reportyea Justin privitize everything thats the Liberal answer eh??? And I will bet you 100 dollars that the soo and its tent are done ...........
geterdun 10/15/2012 9:36:08 AM ReportOh and Justin it has been approved sudbury is getting a 70 million dollar casino go read the news my friend.....either way its 70 times what we got a TENT!!!!!!!!!!LOL...Only in the Soo would they be able to pull that one over LOL.....like I said 100 bucks says they pull out of this dead end city, that will include all the olg jobs at the bondar im sure...they will transfer them all to the real head office in T.O. seeing that they are looking at getting a 3 billion dollar casino there....does the cancelled gas plants sound familiar??? the libs dont care how many jobs or how much they have to spend to win votes...
I'm In 10/15/2012 9:59:44 AM ReportIf you win money at night in the Casino and don't feel safe walking to your vehicle the security guards will escort to your vehicle and that is a fact.
speed7 10/15/2012 10:07:02 AM ReportI didnt mean to presume lady had won money but she could have? Not all people walk out loosers. Assuming all people walk out loosers isnt entirely true but a good percentage do most likely. She also had ID in her purse maybe she might have had medication who knows? I was just making a point for people walking out with winnings. That's all?
Geterdun, I agree we always get stiffed. Its your city councillors and our lovely governement who just has no desire to improve our city. Keep sitting on that retirement plan of the future and not thinking about the present.
geterdun 10/15/2012 11:24:03 AM Reportspeed7: yep your right city council and the liberal goverment is going backwards in this community not forward......?????
To bad so sad!!!!!!!!
Spyyder 10/15/2012 5:08:30 PM ReportPerhaps it should be mandatory for guards to escort winners to their vehicle or don't guards there make enough money??
Maybe they should be replaced and a security firm brought in paying guards the same money and provide the same training. This will never happen as OLG has become stagnant in their hiring processes and will pass over even the most qualified applicant, not even providing them with a contract position. When the casino closes and all the big OLG jobs move to Toronto, security guards left behind or unable to leave town will get a taste of a low paying, dead end job in this glorious city of ours!!! The north should be abandoned free for the land to reclaim as job losses and poor government will continue to ruin our city!
BlackHelix 10/15/2012 9:08:02 PM ReportJust think about what you are saying...EVEN IF a security guard was to escort someone to their car - how would this have prevented the robbery? If a kid on a bike grabs your purse what is the guard going to do? HE IS ON A BIKE. I'll let you think about that for a second - Seriously...really think! And while were on the topic of security guards, maybe we should have escort people to their cars at the bank? If you get robbed outside the bank, it must be the bank's fault right? I'm sure more people are coming out of the bank with cash than at the casino!
I'm not a security guard at the casino (or anywhere for that matter), but just look at the stupidity of some people.
Secondly, I realize that there are people on here that think the government can do nothing right, and the libs sucks, etc etc, but where in the media does it say that the Casino here is closing? I've double (and triple) checked every story on here, the olg website, and every other media outlet. Nowhere does it say that we're loosing our casino and nowhere does it say that Sudbury has been approved for a 70 million dollar casino. Quite the contrary in fact. If you're going to constantly complain about everything the government does - maybe you should start with the things they're ACTUALLY doing...
