moosehunter2 10/11/2012 5:41:43 PM ReportMoved out of the Sault one year ago no regrets best thing I did was get out of that back wood town!!!
mac23 10/11/2012 6:10:40 PM ReportReally people?!?!? Have u not seen the weather! What do u expect with high winds rain and wet snow? Complaining about PUC every chance u get. Do u not realize that we could have power outages everyday and only be put back on for breakfast/lunch and supper for them to get their work done! But no they work in less than desirable conditions to keep us with power. U wanna complain, live out st .joes or north of the city where Great Lakes has to turn the power off to do maintenance on a daily basis! How long is your power really off for an hour at most??? R u that pathetic u can't stand to be alone with your thought for that long! Stop the complaining please!!!! It's always negative people writing on here just waiting for something to bitch about...
KMF61MCF 10/11/2012 6:17:09 PM ReportI agree with you Moose backwoods town is right.
anapeg 10/11/2012 6:34:23 PM Report Mac23, are you not bitching?
cityhallguy 10/11/2012 6:45:45 PM ReportNO JOKE!!!!!!!!
mac23 10/11/2012 7:42:41 PM ReportI'm not bitching I'm sticking up for the hard working men and women at PUC who put their lives at risk everyday to ensure we have power and running water. Maybe we should be thanking them for their hard work and dedication. They r out there working all day and night on little to no sleep when shit hits the fan. Often times it is when everyone else is hiding in their homes avoiding the nasty weather, they r out there working their tails off to restore power as quickly as possible. Look down south, often they r without power for days...sault ste. Marie...don't
Remember one time that has happened! ( other than the blackout which affected all of Ontario!). So to end my discussion I would like to take my hat off the employees of Puc for all their hard work over the years! Keep up the good work!!
PunkBob 10/11/2012 8:14:40 PM ReportPower out white oak dr w......yep great work on our reliable power.
PunkBob 10/11/2012 8:29:42 PM ReportPower back on, *facepalm* it was a power surge that knocked out everything for a few mins. Should be good for everything.
mallet 10/11/2012 8:35:27 PM ReportMac23..
I live in the boonies, and have Gt Lakes Power and the guys do work in all sorts of weather, but it seems as if in the Sault they are getting equiptment failures which really has little to do with the weather conditions. Trees across the lines and taking down lines yes, but insulators breaking, ehh, thats just bad P M scheduling. GLP came and brushed out the lines and then had a contractor finish them last year, called them 4 times regarding a tree that was hanging over the lines and eventually when they had a scheduled outage they came and took the tree down. However it took a lot to get them to that point, and it should not, apart from the crew having to come out in all weathers, what about the people who have to be without power for 4 or 5 hours, which is the general length of outages in the rural ares...
Sam C 10/11/2012 8:36:39 PM ReportI just got home and had to drag a half-dozen large branches off the driveway. This is the kind of weather that takes down power lines and tree branches.
I agree with mac... hats off to the PUC crews -- both the Line and Water Depts. They work in conditions most unionized workers would file a grievance over.
the coach 10/11/2012 10:07:13 PM ReportWhat does PUC stand for? Too many rookies and not enough good coaches.
zdc 10/12/2012 2:06:21 AM ReportAlot of people don't realize that a cracked insulator can remain that way for long period of time without tripping the circuit...under dry conditions. In the sault you had a dry summer, now your receiving considerable moisture and circuits are tripping. IT HAPPENS EVERYWHERE!!! Not just the sault
As for preventative maintenance on insulators, that would be like you trying to predict when your gonna have a flat tire on your car.
You have to remember it's a piece of porcelain, either it's good or its broke, unfortunately your TV shuts off for couple hours.
zdc 10/12/2012 2:17:31 AM ReportThe same people who are haters of the power provider are usually the ones who kick the line crews off there precious property while trying to conduct maintenance. It happens all the time!
RLE 10/12/2012 9:33:35 AM ReportLike many others, I have complained about PUC. However, I have never complained about the people "in the trenches." My complaint is with those responsible for the dilapidated condition of the system and those who thought it was more important to build a new palace rather than fix the infrastructure. I know, that it can be pointed out that the money for infrastructure comes from a different pocket than the money for the palace. However, I am one of the vast majority that also knows that there is only one pocket and that is the taxpayers pocket, so that argument is unsound.
Truck 10/12/2012 10:33:21 AM ReportNobody is saying anything about the crews working to fix things everyday!! The issue most have with the PUC is the rise in rates and the decline in service. Half the city comlained about their water....and nothing was done except for trying to BS their way out of it. The Mayor has done nothing, council has done nothing, and Parella has done nothing but guess and/or lie. Our water is disgusting!! Our power goes out much more frequently, yet our rate continue to rise....how's that make sense. Add the cost of filtration systems or bottles of water and its worse!! If these people took the time to care and listem to their consumers....maybe they'd get a break when things go wrong! Perception is everything and right now the Soo's view of the PUC is terrible....and they seem o care not judging by the 4 emails and 2 phone calls i've made about our water....only to get no response!
SuzyyQ 10/12/2012 7:45:54 PM ReportI was never a bottled water drinker...I always drink tap water and boast that our city water is the best. However, ever since they switched the water to some free-chlorine s**t, it does NOT taste the same, I don't care WHAT the PUC recommends...run your taps for 15 minutes, they say...that is bogus! It DOESN'T HELP in the slightest. A few power outages, I have learned to deal with, since it is out of my control, but why change the water???? I wish I had the original water back.
moem 10/13/2012 1:19:21 AM ReportMac23 you are ridiculous when people complain about PUC it's the upper management people not the workers it's clearly poor infrastructure and people should complain to OEB. The number of outages due to equipment failure here is unacceptable... And your statements about not being able to be alone with one's self and lack of tv etc is ignorant on your part.. Had you bothered to consider that people like me for example and I'm sure others have a baby whose bottle needs to be warmed, and food that needs heating up?? And when it's really cold this winter and power is out for an hour, it can get quite cold inside quickly for babies, young children and elderly people so maybe before you make thoughtless comments you should consider that power is needed for many things other than tv etc, of course many of us have iPhones and laptops that we can charge in preparation for such failures so we don't need to be without technology lol but we may need to provide the necessities of life to our children
