We're paying these rediculous prices for this service and people are having their power interupted once a week now. Fix your equipment........
Stugatzu 10/9/2012 12:37:46 PM Report

Nice to know that power failures are not only frequent, but expected with the antiquated equipment in place. Meanwhile the PUC feel that having a new building is more important than supplying customers with reliable power. This is the third "equipment failure" in as many months.
Wheels17 10/9/2012 12:50:23 PM Report

Wow! This is the biggest power outage yet and they don't list all the locations that were affected and let me guess, another high voltage switch failure.
B Boy 10/9/2012 12:51:29 PM Report

Some of the expensive electronics in my house are starting to break down because of these power outages.

I have surge protectors but that doesn't help my computer equipment from sudden power loss. I can't afford the UPS packs but I'm going to have to carry a credit card balance now since I can't afford to have my computers fixed AGAIN either.
sweetc 10/9/2012 12:52:41 PM Report

I live in the East End and although I didn;t lose power... we had a blip... not enough to have to reset the clocks but it did kick the surround sound off and the lights flickered.

Using SOOTODAY search feature I counted 30 reports of power outages in 2012. In the next municipal election I will ask my aldermen if the voted for Currans edifice. If they did they will not get my vote.
caper 10/9/2012 1:10:56 PM Report

I was going to suggest that sootoday research the number of outages but i see a good reader already did...the number of 30 ytd is way too high and it would suggest that the reliability of the distribution system is suspect.
Capital must be redirected towards this cause ensuring proper service to customers but it seems that the PUC has other selfish priorities.
good4now 10/9/2012 1:21:47 PM Report

I AM SURPRISED.
Peons are SUPPOSED to Know that it is MUCH more important that the King of the PUC be housed in ultimate luxury in an appropriately energy gobbling glass palace!! Attended to and bowed to by an army of minions.
With every electrical outage the PUC has to purchase LESS power, thus cost go DOWN, and it is only natural that BONUSES go UP....
B Boy 10/9/2012 1:29:39 PM Report

My power has gone out twice in as many days.

This is enough to make me want to go in debt just to get off their ancient grid.
Greyhoundssuck 10/9/2012 1:33:09 PM Report

The PUC gave all that money to Algoma University and yet we are still experiencing "Third World" type power conditions. That money should have been put towards upgrading equipment or put into a fund to help those who are having difficulty paying their bills. As it stands, 30 instances of power outages during a year that has yet to be finished is ridiculous. I must ask what the city councillors are doing about it? I live in Ward 1, and dare I say, I don't see too much being dealt with in regards to these power outages by the councillors of Ward 1.

PUC-must be buying cheap electronic garbage from CHINA , because they can get away with it ,WHY because we allow it and as a deocratic population here in the soo .WE WONT DO A DAM THING ABOUT IT...SIT WHINNN AND THATS ABOUT IT,COMPLETE CIVILITY TO THE FREEZING END..AND IF THERE IS A THIRD WORLD THEN WE MUST BE THE SECOND,FOR SURE NOT EVEN CLOSE TO FIRST AS WE CAN SEE..WELL NOT IF ITS AT NIGHT THOUGH EH..
Elmo1 10/9/2012 3:12:34 PM Report

No point in asking the Ward 6 councellor as he just sluffs questions off. Over the past year power has been off quite a bit. PUC stated a number of years ago that they upgraded all the systems (yet another lie). PUC should really get their act together.
geterdun 10/9/2012 3:17:01 PM Report

THE PUC IS NOTHING BUT A JOKE......stealing our money for third rate sevices....So were are the city councillors on this ?????????????NOWHERE???? they dont care.....FG.....JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Truck 10/9/2012 3:33:04 PM Report

I wish consumers had a choice of provider...if so...the PUC wouldn't have the business to build a new building!! The servce they provide is woeful, despite assurances from our Mayor, City Council, the PUC itself....service is sill third rate. The effect of the "swithover" were supposed to last a "few weeks" than a "few months" then "six monts....way beyond those time frames now and my water still smells aweful, and tastes worse!! But because we as conumers have 0 options they do as they please!!
MommyofOne 10/9/2012 4:37:40 PM Report

I live On Goulais ave and have for 4 years. I have never lost power so much in one place then since I lived here. Not exaggerating at all when I say I loose power here at least once every 2 weeks, Whether its a minute or a hour.

LAWL 10/9/2012 5:15:03 PM Report

All you people are complaining about the wrong topics.... Did you know that the SMART meters have really nothing to do with power rates? The PUC sells your personal information to other companies. Those SMART meters read and record everything from serial numbers to what brand of dvd player you have in your home. Anyone notice the low pitch hum or grind noise? That is your smart meter. The business of selling your personal information is worth more than the puny margins that they make selling third party power. You people need to wake up.....
LAWL 10/9/2012 5:22:18 PM Report

If you try to opt out of them selling your info, you will pay premium rates all day. I tried to get rid of the SMART meter. That low pitch hum that sounds like an engine running in the distance is the meter running. So just how Google knows everything about your internet travel, the PUC now everything that you plug in to a receptacle. I laugh at all these people getting caught growing pot. They do not even realize that if their equipment is hooked up to power, they know lol. Nothing is private anymore. NOTHING> See if the PUC will give you any of this information. They wont!
steelworker 10/9/2012 5:22:26 PM Report

Hey Fata-did you follow the sheep and vote for the new PUC building. Next election bye-bye Chump.
LAWL 10/9/2012 5:24:03 PM Report

That information they sell is paying for that expensive building they have. When they installed the SMART meters, they got a whole bunch of extra income. The local people are just too dumb to realize real news...
guestwho 10/9/2012 6:00:36 PM Report

I`ll assume that we`ll be getting them the best power backup system available so they can stay warm or cool, while making out invoices
Stugatzu 10/9/2012 6:34:15 PM Report

LAWL - full of crack-pot conspiracy theories..and that's all they are. Put the pipe down, stop reading your Soldier of Fortune magazine and open your eyes. You couldn't, can't and won't explain how smart meters are able to do anything that you've claimed -- because it isn't happening. Smart Meters able to read the serial number off my DVD player *ROFLMAO* You're on crack! Low pitched hum/grinding.. is your meter.. not buying that either.. those are the marbles that are loose and rolling around in your empty head. Please.. do explain your theories.. I DARE YOU.
steelworker 10/9/2012 6:37:30 PM Report

I think that the low-pitch humming and grinding is probably his wife.

I called up PUC yesterday regarding this power outage and asked the clerk about who customers can direct their concerns/complaints to, and the clerk said you can email Dominic Parrella and voice your complaints.
