What no detailed report of what exactly happened? Oh I forgot it only happens if it was on a First Nation
mudrunner 10/5/2012 8:48:58 AM Report

Omg lol detailed report maybe you should read it again, only thing missing is there names. Dont hate the hater.
angens 10/5/2012 9:08:43 AM Report

@hunny - fur shure!

MikeQ 10/5/2012 10:43:49 AM Report

It could have been minors... and it doesn't only happen when it's on a first nation... look at other police reports, it shows stuff in town ALL the time.
cityhallguy 10/5/2012 11:13:17 AM Report

hunny and angens...
It's not more detailed...they just use a lot of simpler words so that you can understand!!!
Get a life, and stop using racism as an excuse!!!
geterdun 10/5/2012 11:16:34 AM Report

wow!!!!!!!! grow up people.....
hunny 10/5/2012 11:41:43 AM Report

Hmmm, all they say on this article today is he kicked a door and assaulted his girlfriend... yet this one is a bit more detailed... Didn't mention anything about race but since you brought it up... explain as to why there is a difference in detailing. Seems as though if anything is bad news on the rez its the only time you hear about it. Just my opinion... but to me, there is a difference for pretty much the same crime.

A 41-year-old male and his spouse were engaged in a verbal argument when the male allegedly struck the 35-year-old female victim several times on her body, face and head before dragging her up and down a set of stairs by her hair.

The accused then allegedly proceeded to choke the victim, threw her out a patio door and then threw a glass bowl at her.

He then dragged her back into the residence striking her numerous times in the head and face.

The assault was witnessed by several children in the residence.

The victim was transported to Sault Area Hospital by ambulance with serious facial injuries and was admitted to hospital.

The 41-year-old year old male was arrested and charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm and one count of assault with a weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused is being held in custody pending a bail hearing today at 10 a.m. in Sault Ste. Marie Provincial Court.
Slim Shady 10/5/2012 12:24:41 PM Report

To readers like "Hunny" et al:

SooToday usually reprints (cut'n'paste) what is off the OPP & City Police Reports.... These reports are written by different officers some of which may write more detail, some with less. None of them write racist comments.

Do you really think its racism? Sad if you do. Domestic violence is domestic violence no matter who's at fault or how much detail was released. Funny, I don't remember them saying it was a First Nations man who beat his wife?

I really like how some people on here of various ethnicities pull the "poverty, racism, government is out to get us, et cetera" cards.... many of you are not happy unless you have drama in your lives. Grow-up.

AAP 10/5/2012 12:29:30 PM Report

These are press releases provided by the police stations in the respective jurisdictions. If it happened on the "rez" then the Anishinabek Police provided the press release. If if happened in the Sault then it was provided by the SSMPD, etc.

I may be wrong but I believe these are published exactly as written.

Just a thought.
N1T5 101 10/5/2012 12:49:05 PM Report

Lol holy smokes first nations people have bin and still are being treated as minority and unjust till this day.. If anyone disagrees with that your what's wrong with this country and north America As a whole. They were givin "reserves" to live on. What's wrong with any other place the white society lives in? And what about all the sexual abuse going on in residential schools? I know I flew off the handle here but hey guys a girls give your head a shake will ya? No wonder there's addiction and whatever else
Bad Dawg 10/5/2012 12:57:13 PM Report

how do you know they are native?? cause they live on the res?? there are plenty of white wife beaters on the res too... your an idiot if you think I don't beat your moms
the coach 10/5/2012 1:18:13 PM Report

Hogwash, racism starts in the home and is like a cancer that spreads. If you want to hate native people or white people give your head a shake. Love your neighbors.
cityhallguy 10/5/2012 1:25:33 PM Report

then tell me hunny...why mention the First Nation??? If you weren't getting at race, then what were you referring to???
moem 10/5/2012 3:16:52 PM Report

I agree there are fewer details in this article and it does beg the question as to why that is. If you think that there isn't an extraordinary amount of racism against Aboriginal people you are nuts and there is no excuse for it here or anywhere else but it's particularly disturbing to me when it occurs in an area where the Aboriginal population is very high! Maybe if you read other sites you might see what I'm talking about the articles in the Winnipeg sun and other Manitoba papers would sicken most people and the comments are despicable .... Worse than the ones on here even, APTN has a link on their site. The fact that the moderators don't remove the comments is even worse, and society seems to think it's acceptable to be racist towards First Nations people you would never see these kinds of comments on articles about Chinese people or East Indian people to name a few... Perhaps everyone reading this should do a little investigating over the Thanksgiving weekend while they enjoy their turkey dinners, look at the root of Thanksgiving and ask yourself whether or not it's a holiday we should all celebrate given the ramifications it had in the people who were already here!! I saw a Tshirt at a powwow once that said "illegal immigration began in 1492" food for thought huh??? And by now you must assume I'm Native..... I'm not, i'm just a person who is outraged by blatant racism and those who think it's okay!!!
Tom_Bom 10/5/2012 3:37:11 PM Report

If we could maybe divert back to the subject for a second... Woman beating scum bag in jail. +1
moem 10/5/2012 4:12:48 PM Report

Just reread the article on batchewana assault it's OPP that's why it's more detailed however there are some horrible comments on there about it being "life on the res" and natives getting special treatment, that's bs they just want fair and equal treatment and they want compensation for the atrocities they suffered at our hands, nobody with half a brain in their heads can really think that they have it better than us!! Do some reading on the subject, look at conditions on northern reserves, they are forced to live in conditions similar too third world countries except they don't have Sally struthers and Walter Coppage making infomercials for them!!!!
geterdun 10/5/2012 4:36:11 PM Report

There sure seems to be alot of angry natives in this community ???????? I dont know why that is?? you have ten times the opportunities than the regular Joe.......You should be thankful for all the opportunities you have not angry....... grow up for heavens sake.....
mudrunner 10/5/2012 4:47:59 PM Report

moem Thanks giving has nothing to do with the Natives in Canada, thats USA history.
moem 10/5/2012 5:12:39 PM Report

Oh right the border was already there when the pilgrims came and the natives were not free to go where they wanted....sorry my bad, how stupid am I, oops!!!
moem 10/5/2012 5:21:38 PM Report

Oh and thanksgiving is a European concept and Europeans came here and have been pretty much sticking it to the natives since they got here Canada and USA... Why do you actually think we treated them better, also to further my point that it matters not Canada or the USA next time you talk to a Native person ask them where the border is???
mudrunner 10/5/2012 6:05:18 PM Report

moem--
Oh and thanksgiving is a European concept
You should study your history a little more.
Various First Nations in Canada had long-standing traditions celebrating the harvest and giving thanks for a successful bounty of crops. Canada's First Nations and Native Americans throughout the Americas, including the Pueblo, Cherokee, Cree and many others organized harvest festivals, ceremonial dances, and other celebrations of thanks for centuries before the arrival of Europeans in North America
mudrunner 10/5/2012 6:11:38 PM Report

But anyways this is not about the Natives,Whites, or any other racis its about Police responding to domestic disturbance.
moem 10/5/2012 8:57:03 PM Report

Yes the natives did give thanks, but you know that thanksgiving as we know it and as it's taught in schools is about newcomers the European folks coming here and as for racism go read the article and comments that was first cited in this discussion... wikipedia.org/wiki/Thanksgiving#

If you have children or grandchildren ask them what they know about thanksgiving, see what they reply,

mudrunner 10/6/2012 8:16:11 AM Report

moem you are quite the Bias person.

As for my kids an what they know about Thanks Given is it's time to give thanks for the harvest an prepare for the Winter solstice.

Not everyone is all about what you think goes on an religion.

Now you can change the topic to winter solstice.
