Orazietti announces $50,000 for Algoma Fall Festival

Ontario government strengthens local tourism and job creation

SAULT STE. MARIE - The Ontario government is investing $50,000 to support Sault Ste. Marie’s Algoma Fall Festival and help further boost tourism and local job creation, announced David Orazietti MPP.

“The province is continuing to support local festivals and events because we recognize the economic importance of investing in the tourism industry in Sault Ste. Marie,” said Orazietti. “Our tourism strategy in northern Ontario is helping local residents enjoy accessible and affordable activities, while also attracting more out-of-town and out-of-province visitors who provide a financial boost to a wide range of local businesses.”

In 2012, Celebrate Ontario funding helped support 203 festivals and events across the province.

Provincial support for Ontario’s tourism sector helps festivals and events enhance programming and services that strengthen local economies, create jobs and foster a better quality of life for local families.

Celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, the Algoma Fall Festival provides a range of programming that includes music, theatre, dance, visual arts and the Festival of Learning - an extensive arts outreach and education program.

The festival takes place October 12 to November 3, 2012.

“The Algoma Fall Festival is very pleased to receive Celebrate Ontario funding in support of our arts and culture presentations,” said Donna Hilsinger, President, Algoma Arts Festival Association. “The Festival is celebrating our 40th anniversary this year and our programming has been drawing tourists from the cities and towns from Northern Ontario and beyond. The Festival’s presentation of the Canadian Tenors is being supported by Celebrate Ontario and we are delighted to welcome concert goers from across the province.”

Celebrate Ontario 2013 is now open for applications launched through Grants Ontario, a new secure web-based application system providing one-window access for users.

The Celebrate Ontario 2013 application deadline is November 20, 2012.

How did I know that someone would complain about this?

Get an education, get a job, get fed instead of being fed up...this city needs more culture and an influx of cash to the economy. Now if we had a real venue for the arts, that would bring in plenty of tourist dollars.

How about converting the Bushplane into an arts an events centre? It's not bringing in money otherwise...keep the planes (hang them from the roof), but the "interactive" exhibits are a joke. Americans must come up and laugh at how hokey some of this stuff is.
