Community meetings to discuss rural health model for Algoma
Representatives from the North East Local Health Integration Network (NE LHIN), Sault Area Hospital (SAH) and the Blind River District Health Centre (BRDHC) will be hosting a series of community engagement sessions next week to discuss the proposed integration of the Matthews Memorial and Thessalon Hospital sites under the BRDHC.
This proposed model has been discussed and developed over the past two years in response to clear and repeated direction from residents in rural Algoma communities of the need to govern and make health care delivery decisions respecting the unique economic, social, cultural and geographic characteristics of smaller rural communities.
This approach is also consistent with the recommendations outlined by the Rural and Northern Health Care Panel.
The meetings will provide area residents with an update on the specifics of the proposed model and solicit feedback and/or answer any questions they may have.
In order to provide maximum opportunities for interested residents to attend, three sessions are planned:
- Tuesday, October 9 - Royal Canadian Legion Hall, Richards Landing
- Wednesday, October 10 - Oddfellows Hall, Thessalon
- Thursday, October 11 - Blind River District Health Centre (Learning Centre)
All sessions will begin at 7 p.m. and everyone is encouraged to attend.
