Canadian Independent Grocer of the Year Award winner

The Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers congratulates Rome's Your Independent Grocer of Sault Ste. Marie

TORONTO - The 50th Annual Canadian Independent Grocer of the Year Awards Ceremony was presented on Tuesday, October 2nd in Toronto, in front of a gala audience of over 500 leading grocers, suppliers, and distributors at Grocery Innovations Canada 2012, Canada’s premier grocery conference and tradeshow.

Each year, the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers (CFIG) Awards Program recognizes the success of outstanding independent retailers and offers insights into innovations that are changing and enhancing the way retailers compete.

This year, CFIG is proud to announce that Steve and Chris Rome and Staff of Rome’s Your Independent Grocer in Sault Ste. Marie. ON were awarded the Saskatchewan/ Manitoba/ Northern Ontario Regional Award for Top Independent Grocer of the Year - Large Surface Category.

“Steve and Chris Rome are succeeding what may be the most competitive market in the country” said John F.T. Scott, President and CEO of CFIG. “Besides being savvy retailers, they are approachable; down to earth folks who make a major contribution to their community, and we are very pleased that they were recognized at GIC this year.”

The Canadian Independent Grocer of the Year is the most prestigious award CFIG can bestow.

Each year, Independent grocery stores from coast to coast in Canada compete for the coveted title in each of the specialty, large, medium and small surface categories.

Each of the competing stores is visited personally by a highly respected retail management expert, who evaluates competing stores based on retailing excellence and innovation, store team performance, customer service, space utilization, freshness and cleanliness.

The Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers (CFIG) is a non-profit trade association founded in 1962, which continues to be a collaborative community, equipping and enabling independent, franchised and specialty grocers for sustainable success.

Representing over 4000 grocery retailers from every part of Canada, CFIG is a strong and united voice for independent grocers, providing programs for operational excellence, facilitating educational and training programs and fostering enabling-relationships among retailers and suppliers.

CFIG is a respected organization that speaks confidently for its retail members to industry, government, and the consumer.

Congrats!

ALTHOUGH Y.I.G. is listed as having beef from XL....

seriously... seriously? Lots of grocery stores carry XL products. As long as they are responding appropriately to the recall, I don't see that as a problem.
