Reader wants to make a splash (pad)

Thursday, October 04, 2012   by: SooToday.com Staff

SooToday.com has received the following letter from a loyal reader looking for petition support:

*************************

My name is Katie Vallee.

I am hoping you can maybe help with getting more awareness out about something.

About two weeks ago in a Facebook group that I belong to (majority Sault Mom's) starting talking about what they would do if they had the money to bring something to the Sault.

A lot agreed that a splash pad would be a hit.

I agreed.

I guess last year someone had started this process late by trying to obtain funds through an online contest with Avivia.

This year I didn't want to miss out.

I started up a page to gain support.

It launched yesterday and first round goes until October 15.

As I am writing this e-mail, I came aware of someone who has approached City Hall about getting one.

They were told to obtain 5,000 signatures (they have 3,000), but once they got that they needed to find funding which is where this would fit in perfectly.

My hopes is for you to maybe put together an article of some sort with the link to vote and get people aware of where they can sign the petition.

Each person has up to 15 votes (one a day) and I know if we got the word out there we could stay on top.

This is the link to the page.

If you need more information let me know I am very eager to help get this going and hoping this could be successful!

Your help is greatly appreciated!

- Katie Vallee :)

Just yesterday I was at the park with a friend and we spoke of the splash pads that use in parks all over the city. It's a shame this city doesn't have even one outdoor splash pad.
