NEWS RELEASE
SEARCHMONT SKI ASSOCIATION
*************************
Searchmont Ski Association Volunteer Work Day - Saturday, October 13
A group of volunteers is heading to Searchmont October 13 to clean up the mountain and we can use your help!
There are a number of projects underway, including:
• Building painting
• Terrain park feature maintenance and repair
• General clean-up of the area
• Roofing repairs
• Mountain brushing
If you can help out please bring your gloves, rakes, shovels, screw guns, garbage bags, paint brushes, wheelbarrows, etc.
For safety concerns, we would prefer loppers or pruning shears as brushing equipment as this job can be awful hard on home power equipment.
If you are someone with commercial roof experience and may be able to help us solve some issues, please let us know.
Everyone is welcome - this is a great way to show our community how much Searchmont means to all of us.
Come for an hour, come for the entire day!
We are expecting to be there from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
BBQ lunch will be available.
If you can make it, please respond by e-mail and let us know.
Can't make this one but interested in future work days?
Let us know and we will be in touch.
Have a project that you would like to be involved with?
Let us know that also.
Just 74 days until opening day!

Brianne 10/2/2012 11:45:16 AM ReportIt's all good until someone gets hurt........ then what.......... who's going to be responsible for wages etc. Are these people going to be insured ?
opinionated 10/2/2012 12:44:10 PM ReportSearchmont is a non-profit company, hence the request for volunteers. "Non-profit" doesn't mean they don't spend money on liability and volunteer insurance (at least one would really presume this).
There are no wages to worry about.
Brianne 10/2/2012 1:04:32 PM Report"presuming" to cover ( insure) people in case of injury............is ?
yoyo165 10/2/2012 1:15:43 PM ReportOf all the comments this story could have generated, we're talking about insurance?!?!?!?
opinionated 10/2/2012 1:18:01 PM Report"Presuming" as in it would be idiotic for them not to have insurance in this case.
TankGirl 10/2/2012 3:06:09 PM ReportWhy does everyone that frequents this site complain about everything? (And most of the time with no knowledge of what they are talking about)
Searchmont is insured for this work. The stakeholders and management aren't new at this and they are smart people. This work is done every year and mostly by volunteers since they cut the paid positions that used to do this work due to budget constraints a few years ago.
If you want to volunteer, great! If you don't, why are you even commenting on this?
RLE 10/2/2012 4:43:46 PM ReportTank Girl:
We do this because every once in awhile it is fun to practice what Julius Caesar did when he said:
"Friends,Romans and country men.
Lend me your ear,for I come before you, to stand behind you,to tell you something that I know nothing about."
Or at least I think he said that. Also could have been Curly,Moe or Larry

In my opinion, there appears to be a few posters on this site that have "Little Person Syndrome"

TankGirl 10/2/2012 7:28:08 PM Report:) lol.
Searchmont Resort is a gem that the Sault should hold onto tightly and support in every way it can. I see news/articles/comments regarding children being lazy, playing video games, not enjoying the outdoors. Searchmont is one of the few winter opportunities children should be encouraged to use as way to socialize, exercise and learn a new skill. The hill has made it extremely cheap for beginners to learn and ski. Take advantage parents. Car pool, take the bus, just make it happen.
Back on topic...to see comments so negative under a non profit organization announcement for volunteers to help the hill open, boggles my mind. This hill brings in millions in hotel visits, restaurants and more. Without local support not only could we lose this gem but, the local business that it brings to a Northern Ontario city that in the winter, wouldn't have much else to offer visitors if the hill went under is a major concern the Sault should take note of.
Prrrrrrr 10/2/2012 8:22:53 PM ReportI agree...
