madmaymax 9/28/2012 5:35:01 PM ReportHELLO TO THE GOOD PEOPLE OF SAULT SAINT MARIE:) I HAVE HAD TO USE FOOD BANKS QUITE A FEW TIMES,IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO HAVE TO RELY ON A FOOD BACK TO FEED ONES FAMILY, BUT WORST IS WHEN YOU GET THE FOOD HOME AND FIND IT HAS EXPIRED! IF YOU DONATE PLEASE DO NOT GIVE CAN FOODS THAT HAVE PASSED THE BEST BEFORE DATE, WHAT GOOD IS THAT FOOD TO ANYONE! GOD BLESS FOR YOUR KINDNESS BUT IN MY OPINION NO ONE THAT RECEIVES EXPIRED FOOD APPRECIATES THAT YOU ONLY GAVE BECAUSE YOU DID NOT WANT YOUR FAMILY EATING EXPIRED FOOD, WE DO NOT WANT OUR FAMILY EATING IT EITHER!THANKS FOR READING AND GOD BLESS TO ALL WHO DONATES AND CARES!
GotRotties 9/29/2012 8:35:09 AM ReportDear Madmaymax,
I can understand the concern over expired food...and I have no intention of placing any in the blue box...however I would like to point out that in these times people are a little spoiled..the expiration date is just one way the food companies can make you toss perfectly good food, it says BEST before..not unedible...when I was young some years ago...we didnt have expiry dates...we threw canned goods out when they swelled or had rust on them and that was before the day of the white liners that now grace our cans. Expired cans are certainly good enough to use after the date...do you think that they suddenly go bad at midnight of the date printed. I realize you dont want to feed your family rotten food but you are using a computer and complaining about what you are getting for free..I find that just a wee bit selfish...you wont give up the computer and the service required to run it but you bitch about what other people are giving you, perhaps be grateful for the generosity of others rather than looking for the faults in their giving. You actually made me hesitate about giving this year because of what you wrote...but I will still give, because I know there are people that really DO need help and are grateful for what they get.
madmaymax 9/29/2012 12:57:09 PM ReportHI THERE, I DO NOT USE THE FOOD BANK ANY MORE AS I GROW MY OWN FOOD NOW:):): I HAVE TAKEN THE TIME TO CALL THE COMPANIES THAT LIST THIER 1-800 NUMBER ON THIER PRODUCTS AND ASKED THEM ABOUT THE EXPIRY DATE AND HAVE BEEN TOLD NOT TO USE THE PRODUCT AS WITH THE CANS THESE DAYS THERE ARE SO MANY CHEMICALS THAT ARE USED IN THIER LINING AND THEY ARE NOT SAFE, I HAVE COME ALONG WAY FROM FOOD BANK DAYS AND YES I DONATE BUT NOTHING PAST THE DATE AND IF I WON'T EAT IT I DO NOT EXPECT PEOPLE ESPECIALLY CHILDREN TO EAT IT, IT IS TIME THAT PEOPLE PROTECT ONE ANOTHER THE HUDGE MULTI MILLION DOLLAR COMPANIES ONLY TELL WHAT YOU NEED TO HEAR ABOUT THIER PRODUCTS,CALL THEM AND ASK YOURSELF:)WOULD YOU DRINK MILK PAST THE DUE DATE OR MEAT? SORRY THIS IS THE WAY I FEEL! I DO HOPE THE FOOD DRIVE IS A WONDERFUL SUCCESS TODAY:):):) AS THERE ARE MANY A PEOPLE HUNGRY OUT THERE,MORE THAN PEOPLE CARE TO KNOW.
guestwho 9/29/2012 4:14:34 PM Reportthere must be a better system than that ,really, free food in boxes curb side, low lifes=field day@ curb side shopping.not trying to be negative but come on really?
Bacon 9/29/2012 8:20:51 PM ReportI too also think there should be another way to donate other than blue box curb side. While out running errands this morning, a person with a shopping cart was making a killing. I don't believe he/she would have been able to push the cart as it was loaded. Hopefully it was a starving family he/she was bringing the donated food home too. In the past I also put my blue box curb side, and watched as young men helped themselves. Again, I hope they needed it.
speed7 9/29/2012 9:15:05 PM ReportFood Banks are a wonderful thing in helping our less fortunate members of this city. How come this issue as to why we having people in this city using them more and more? The question why? is never addressed isnt it? No.
Maybe its because our city is jobless ????? Were on the brink of loosing more jobs soon?
City councillors. and government officials eyes are too big with those big fat pensions of theirs .
I have no problem with food banks , only when I hear stories of people going to eat at the soup kitchen for free when they dont need it. They are working people in our society and they should be ashamed of themselves taking food from hungry poor people. Food for thought! No pun intended.
