Rob and Renee hope their actions inspire others

Wednesday, September 26, 2012   by: SooToday.com Staff

SooToday.com received a note and the photo above from Rob and Renee Connolly, a generous couple that surprised friends and family by getting married at their recent stag and doe.

The surprise didn't stop there as the newlyweds announced that all the money raised from their stage and doe would be donated to the Soup Kitchen Community Centre.

"We hope to inspire people and start a trend to donate some of the money that has been raised at these events," the couple wrote to us. "Even if it is $100, it would really help."

A news release issued by the Soup Kitchen Community Centre follows.

********************************
A local Sault Ste. Marie couple hosted their stag and doe and to the surprise of everyone gathered, they got married then and there!

The newly minted Mr. and Mrs. surprised their guests even further by donating the proceeds of the entire night to the Sault Ste. Marie Soup Kitchen Community Centre.

The Soup Kitchen was the proud recipient of $1,800 thanks to the generous spirit of this local couple, who hope to inspire others.

The funds are a welcome addition to our work that supports the positive growth and development of families and individuals who are proud members of our community.

The Soup Kitchen Community Centre is a positive place that connects us to one another and a bright future for our city.

What a wonderful way to celebrate and share the joy of such a loving occasion.

Our warmest wishes and thanks to the happy couple!

Finally, something that is humble and positive. Stag and Doe's were traditionally held to help the new couple start a life together. How many Stag/Doe's have you been to for couples that already own a home, furniture, vehicles, etc together? I for one can't stand subsidizing $40,000 weddings. This is a great story (for once)...

Awesome!!! This is exactly what community is about and should always be displayed as such!! I couldn't agree with you more about subsidizing people's over elaborate weddings!!! Way to go Renee and Rob!!! =0) Thanks for sharing!!

Well done, indeed! Too many people spend far too much money on a wedding reception. It's a lot of stress and a lot of money for a one-time event.

Maybe this will start a trend?
