New area OPP detachment commander announced

Ontario Provincial Police and Wawa Police Services Board select new detachment commander

SUPERIOR EAST – WAWA - Wawa Police Services Board and Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North East Region Command Staff convened as a selection committee to choose a detachment commander for Superior East Detachment following Staff Sergeant (S/Sgt) Dan Dawson’s transfer and promotion to Temiskaming Detachment. 

The selection committee conducted a three-phase process and is pleased to announce that newly promoted Staff Sergeant Marc Loranger has been selected to fill the position of Superior East (Wawa) detachment commander. 

S/Sgt Loranger takes up his new command on October 8, 2012.

Loranger joined the OPP in 1985 and reported to Smooth Rock Falls Detachment. 

He then served in Hornepayne from 1987-1990.  

Loranger spent a decade working in the North West Region in both Thunder Bay and Atikokan. 

In 2001, Loranger was promoted to the rank of sergeant and transferred to Sioux Lookout Detachment were he completed two secondment opportunities with the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service. 

In 2007, Loranger transferred to the North Bay Detachment were he currently serves.

Loranger has received specialized training in several fields including Technical Traffic Collision Investigator, Motorized Snow Vehicle Instructor, CPR instructor, Coach Officer, Breathalyzer Technician and Regional RIDE Team member. 

Over the years, Loranger has acted in the role of both detachment commander and operational manager.

“I am confident that the skill set and northern experience that I have gained along the way will serve me well in my new position as Detachment Commander - Superior East Detachment,” states S/Sgt. Loranger. “I look forward to working with OPP members in Wawa, Chapleau, White River, and Hornepayne - once again.”
