Henry Champ: 1937-2012

Sunday, September 23, 2012   by: SooToday.com Staff

Canadian broadcast journalist and political correspondent, Henry Champ, died this morning in Washington D.C. at the age of 75.

Beginning his career in 1960 as a print reporter with the Brandon Sun, Champ later moved into broadcast journalism working for CTV, NBC and CBC.

"Here's a guy who has covered some of the great stories of our gneration and the generation before it, from Vietnam right up until today, really, because he was still writing blogs for the CBC, in just the last little while," said CBC's chief correspondent Peter Mansbridge. "But Henry was so much more than a journalist. He was a good friend to everybody he worked with and everybody he met."

Before his retirement in 2008, Champ served as CBC Newsworld's Washington correspondent, although he continued to publish CBC blog entries until earlier this year.

Champ leaves behind his wife and five children.
