OPP issue warning for ongoing fraud attempts
WAWA - On March 19, 2012 the Ontario Provincial Police Superior East Wawa Detachment were advised by three separate local citizens that they had received letters that they believe were money scams.
The letters were from different sources and varied in their attempts to defraud someone of their money.
One complainant had a cheque for a large sum of money and was asked to cash it and wire money to a certain account.
The frauds were not successful.
OPP reminds the public to be wary of letters, telephone calls and emails that seem too good to be true.
Do not give personal information over the phone or send money to anyone without confirming the caller’s identity and the validity of the information being provided.

If you suspect that someone you know has been a victim of a scam encourage them to report the incident to their local police service, for OPP please call 1-888-310-1122.
