(September 18, 2012) - The Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre (SSMIC) today announced that Brian Silverman of the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto, will lead a presentation and workshop on Developing a Winning Business Model this September 25.
The interactive session will include the following topics:
• What is a business model and why it matters
• Criteria for assessing a good business model
• Applications and tools on how to improve your business model
Prior to rejoining the Rotman School in 2001, Brian was assistant professor of competition and strategy at Harvard Business School, where he taught the core strategy course and jointly developed an elective on Technology and Competitive Strategy with faculty at the MIT Media Laboratory.
Brian's research focuses on the ways in which firms' competitive strategies and organizational structures interact to affect their performance – in particular, their ability to access and exploit technological capabilities.
He has provided consulting and instruction to executives in North America, Europe, Asia, and Latin America, working with organizations ranging from entrepreneurial ventures to Fortune 100 firms.
”Developing creative business models can lead companies to success and help them stand apart from the competition,” said Tom Vair, executive director, SSMIC. “This workshop should provide valuable insight to companies in our region and we are pleased to have such an accomplished speaker visit SSM to share his business insights.”
Brian’s work has appeared in numerous academic journals and has also been featured in Business Week online, Sloan Management Review, and The New York Times.
He holds degrees from Harvard, MIT and UC Berkeley.
Breakfast refreshments are included and seating is limited.
