Second annual Emergency Medicine Conference coming soon

Sault Ste. Marie will play host to the second annual Emergency Medicine Conference which will be held September 19-21 at Algoma’s Water Tower Inn and Suites.

A special pre-conference day, September 19, will be dedicated to “CASTED” (Casting and Splinting Techniques in the Emergency Department), the 2011 College of Family Physicians of Canada Continuing Professional Development Award winner.

Organized by a group of local Emergency Medicine specialists and sponsored by SAH, the Sault Ste. Marie Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee, Scotiabank and ScotiaMcLeod, the two-day conference on September 20 and 21 will provide Emergency Medicine practitioners with an evidence-based update on a variety of related topics.

After taking part in this course, participants will be able to provide leadership on issues of importance in Emergency Medicine, employ up-to-date and evidence-based approaches to the diagnosis and management of medical and surgical emergencies in both adult and pediatric
populations, and acquire new, essential hands-on skills required in the treatment of both the
paediatric and adult population.

“We are pleased to present the second annual Emergency Department Conference and we look forward to meeting our colleagues from across the region,” stated Dr. Ehsan Mohammadi, one of the conference organizers.

“We were very pleased with the attendance at our first conference last year, drawing a number of registrants including physicians, nurse practitioners and RNs,” he says. “We look forward to another successful conference, filling a gap in much-needed advanced educational resources in the north.”
