THE CITY OF
SAULT STE. MARIE

Reconstruction of Queen Street East (Pim Street to Simpson Street) - Closure of Queen / Kohler / Lucy intersection

SAULT STE. MARIE - In order to facilitate the next stage of the Queen Street reconstruction project, it will be necessary to close the Queen Street/Kohler Street/Lucy Terrace intersection to vehicular traffic from all directions for a period of approximately six weeks commencing Monday, September 17.

During this period, access to the Doctors’ Building off Lucy Terrace will be provided via Queen Street from Pim Street eastbound to Church Street, then south on Church Street to D’Youville Road and through to Lucy Terrace around the back of the former General Hospital site.

Traffic exiting from the Doctors’ Building will travel the same route behind the former General Hospital site and then proceed north on Church Street. (see above detour plan).

Signage will be erected along the detour route to assist motorists.

Residents of lower Church Street and Gordon Avenue and motorists seeking access to the Ministry of Natural Resources complex will use the same route from Pim Street to Church Street.

The City of Sault Ste. Marie appreciates your patience and cooperation during this construction period.

For those that are elderly, disabled or face mobility challenges that use public transit this detour is cruel.

For those of us that work/live on the Queen/Church corner, this has been torture listening to the machinery and dealing with the dust and diesel fumes – but they are making progress! Good work guys!
