NEWS RELEASE
TERRY FOX RUN
As always, there is no minimum donation to take part.
One can walk, run, use your wheelchair, cycle or roller blade along the waterfront or just show up to show your support.
The run will be a family event with a BBQ, face painting, a silent auction, musical entertainment and activities for the kids.
Cancer research has made a difference!
The most recent results rates indicate that five-year survival rates of over 80 percent have been achieved for breast, prostate, melanoma, testicular, Hodgkin’s, bladder, cervical and uterine cancer.
This remarkable progress in cancer survival rates is in no small part due to Terry Fox’s legacy.
Join thousands of Canadians, in celebrating the Legacy of Terry Fox’s “ Marathon of Hope.”
There are over 9000 Terry Fox Runs held each year – all volunteer-led and organized.
$600 million has been raised for cancer research since 1980.
Over $400,000 has been raised in Sault Ste. Marie alone since 1982.
In 2011, we are pleased to report that the Sault had the second highest growth rate in revenue and participation raising almost $30,000 and doubling participation from the previous year with well over 500 participants.
The local organizing committee hopes to continue on its success with an ultimate goal of raising one dollar for every person in Sault Ste. Marie.
Terry Fox’s goal in the Marathon of Hope was to raise one dollar for every man, woman and child in Canada.
For further information contact one of the co-chairs of our local organizing committee, Nathan Mudge at 705-945-9608 (e-mail) or Julie Premo at 705-945-0949 (e-mail).
Our organizing committee members would welcome an opportunity to be interviewed and to provide further information to you prior, during and after this event.
