Another honour for Angelo Bumbacco

As one of Sault Ste. Marie’s most well-known hockey figures, Angelo Bumbacco now has a room to call his own at the Essar Centre.
Involved in local hockey for more than 60 years, Bumbacco now officially has the North Breakout Room at the Essar Centre named in his honour.
The recognition was approved by city council in November 2011 at a reception to celebrate Bumbacco’s 80th birthday,
One of the original founders and directors of the Soo Greyhounds, Bumbacco is a member of the Sault Ste. Marie hockey Hall of Fame and is the Committee Chair, a recipient of the H.P. Broughton award as Sportsperson of the Year and a Northern Ontario Hockey Association Medal of Merit recipient.
Bumbacco has served as a scout for the National Hockey League’s Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks, Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning. Bumbacco earned a Stanley Cup ring as a scout with Tampa Bay when they won the title in 2004.
Also among the honours bestowed upon Bumbacco is the Ontario Hockey League’s Western Conference championship trophy is also named in his honour.
Along with serving as a room used for receptions, the newly-named Angelo Bumbacco Room also serves as the media/scouts room during Greyhounds home games.
