JediMindTrick 9/5/2012 4:06:03 PM ReportI hope people raise hell regarding trying to include advertising and commercials on EspaceMusic and Radio-2.
It would completely destroy the station and would easily push many listeners away.
I can see this as becoming a retarded decision by the CRTC. Don't go and ruin one of the few good things left.
Stevie-E 9/5/2012 4:12:50 PM ReportIn order to remain relevant and competitive, I think advertisment slots should be sold so we are not exposed to the same garbage programming year after year. I am willing to sit through a few commercials to get better programming options.
I realize we cannot compete with the US due to the size of the market, but come on...let's get some better programming and CBC radio is the most boring thing I have ever heard in my life.
howndawg 9/5/2012 4:32:27 PM ReportCut off the tax payers contributions and make them compete on level ground. Why do we pay for garbage?
speed7 9/5/2012 5:37:59 PM ReportWe pay for junk and at a hefty charge. Its pretty bad when all we like to watch are pawn starz and storage wars. OLN and A&E seem to be the best stations aside from some of the older movie channels. That is if you like watching that movie for the tenth time in a row. I think our programming sucks. Tired of paying money for junk.
PF92 9/5/2012 5:40:53 PM ReportThe better topic would have been..."Do you even listen to the radio anymore?"
speed7 9/5/2012 7:33:24 PM ReportRadio is dead. Music is a free industry and ITunes grabbed the bulk of the paying market. If you mean news radio well that is ok and useful. But again satellite radio has taken over a part of that too. I really miss that show with Art Bell on the radio. Now that was when talk radio was more interesting. CBC radio is informative by yes, I agree boring.
mr_jmac 9/5/2012 8:46:24 PM ReportI'm really surprised at some of the comments. I really can't comment about the TV side of things (except for Hockey Night in Canada) because I don't watch a lot of network TV. However, I think the CBC radio is fantastic and should remain commercial free. The programming is thought provokin, intelligent and one of the few things remaining that we have to identify as uniquely Canadian. As Canadians I think it is something we can and should be proud of.
Cross Canada Check up, Definitely not the opera, Jian Ghomeshi, the Debaters, the Vinyl Cafe. Come on folks these programs are great.
I realize it is not everyone's cup of tea and might be boring to some people. You can tune in to satellite radio and listen to Howard Stern or another US program but I think we need to protect what we have in the CBC.
ABE 9/6/2012 7:33:26 AM ReportMRJMAC, I couldn't agree more! Love CBC radio and television. I would much rather watch Rick Mercer Report, Dragon's Den, The Fifth Estate, The Nature of Things, George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight and the National (i.e. INTELLIGENT TELEVISION), than garbage like Jersey Shore!
And nothing helps time pass on a road trip quite like The Vinyl Cafe with Stuart McLean.
Canadian television has come a long way! Be proud and supportive ..think Canadian!!
