NEWS RELEASE

TORCH OF LIFE WALK FOR NANCY

*************************

Live September 6 @ 12 p.m. here

TORONTO (September 4, 2012) – After a long and successful 72-city Torch of Life marathon campaign across Ontario to help boost organ and tissue donor awareness, the Torch of Life will make a final trek from Queen’s Park in Toronto to Sault Ste. Marie on Wednesday, September 5, 2012, in support of double lung transplant patient Nancy Salvalaggio.

Diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis and Hepatopulmonary Liver Disease in 2010, Nancy’s organ transplant will mark the first one of its kind performed at Toronto General Hospital with this organ combination.

Leading the provincial marathon in memory of his organ donor brother who was tragically killed in 2005 when he was mistakenly shot by an Israeli soldier, Palestinian born Khaled Khatib will once again bear the Torch in an effort to help inspire Canadians to register to become organ and tissue donors in support of the thousands like Nancy whose lives hang in the balance waiting for a transplant.
