John Ubriaco: 1925-2012

SooToday.com received the following notice from Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre regarding John Ubriaco, a Sault Ste. Marie Hockey Hall of Famer.

UBRIACO, John

Peacefully with his family by his side Tuesday August 28th , 2012 at Park Ave. Manor Retirement Home , Burlington ON at the age of 87.  

Beloved husband of the late Cora (Hawdon). Loving father of Dawne Johnson (Kevin) of London ON, Elsie Ubriaco (Joseph Genovese) of Burlington ON and James Allyn of Salt Lake City , Utah. Proud Papa of Kelsey and Amanda Johnson.  

Predeceased by parents Frank and Rose (Sanzosti) ,Caroline (Sanzosti) and sister Josephine.

Survived by brother Gene Ubriaco (Nella ) and sisters Mary Bullock (Henry) and Doreen Maciuk (John).  

Fondly remembered by many aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews as well as cherished friends, especially the Haapala family .  

A talented hockey player in his younger years, John played for several teams in Canada and the USA .

He was inducted into the Sault Ste. Marie Hockey Hall of Fame in 1969.  

John worked at the Algoma Steel Corp. for over 30 years and was an avid golfer.  

Special thanks go to the dedicated and compassionate staff at Park Ave. Manor as well as the HNHB CCAC’s Palliative Care Team for their constant care and attention.  

Cremation has taken place.  

Friends may gather at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre, 942 Great Northern Rd. Sault Ste. Marie ON, (705) 945-7758 on Sunday September 9th 2012 from 1 p.m. until the celebration of John’s life in the Chapel at 3 p.m.  

Memorial donations to HNHB CCAC or the Alzheimer Society would be greatly appreciated.

Worked with John, he was a good fellow besides a heck of a hockey player. Prayers to Johnny's family.
