Sault police arrest Sudbury Regional Police officer

Greater Sudbury Regional Police officer arrested by SSMPS Professional Standards Bureau

On April 23, 2012, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service’s Professional Standards Bureau commenced a criminal investigation at the request of the Greater Sudbury Regional Police Service.

The lengthy investigation involved a member of the Greater Sudbury Police Service.

On Tuesday, August 21, 2012, 53-year-old Gary Lavoie of Sudbury was arrested and will appear in bail court in Sudbury.

Mr. Lavoie has been charged with one count of Fraud contrary to section 380 of Criminal Code of Canada and one count of Perjury contrary to section 131(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

This affidavit did not relate to Gary Lavoie’s duties as a police officer.
