'This elderly man has changed the way I see this town'

Saturday, August 18, 2012   by: SooToday.com Staff

SooToday.com received the following letter today from a young mother whose infant daughter was shown a little kindness from a complete stranger.

******************************
I just wanted to write a letter to you guys.

I am a 19-year-old mother, my daughter is 10 months old.

Me and my boyfriend took my daughter up to the Cambrian Mall today to finish some birthday shopping and get some lunch.

While sitting out side TD Canada Trust waiting for my father, an elderly gentleman came over and started talking with my boyfriend.

He pulled out a TY Beanie Baby that he had just bought at Cole's and gave it to my daughter.

He told us growing up he never had toys, and he likes to give to children and babies so he always knows they have something.

He also told us he lived at the home on top of the hill (Collegiate Heights) and my older brother works there.

When I mentioned my brother, he told me about how much he appreciates all he does for the people there.

I have lived in the Sault for 19 years, and I've never experienced anything like this.

We see things on the news all the time about the bad in this town, so I thought I'd write to you about the good.

This elderly man has changed the way I see this town.

Thank you for brightening my day and my daughters day.

She loves the husky.

I hope your kindness is given back you very soon!

Signed,

A young mother whose daughter will always be grateful for the generosity of the elderly man :)

I am glad this young lady has chosen to tell her story to SooToday.com and it's many readers. It's "small" incidents like this that often have the biggest impact. It made me feel good just reading about it.

Might as well just turn this into a 'Letters to the Editor' website.

On the way back home from a road trip one summer, we stopped for lunch at Nairne Centre.
While I was paying the bill at the cash, the lady behind the counter offered my then 5 yr old daughter her choice of chocolate bar - on the house.
Her explanation was that my daughter was just so cute, she just wanted to give her a chocolate bar.

Sweet!

Snowdon: You have issues, whats wrong with people being kind to others and letting the readers on this site know about the kind acts done to them.

Great story!

The smallest gestures can have the biggest impact. A smile. A good morning. The simple act of holding a door for someone.

You never know what someone may be going through that minute, that day, that month or that year. If we all put in a little effort every day, there's no telling what difference we might make in someone's life!

Last month I was sitting in the parking lot of the RBC, at second Line and Korah Road. A lady was yelling loudly, waving her arms, and running toward my car.
She asked if I knew the man that had just gone into the bank. She discribed him, I knew it was my son. I was sure he had been hurt; she assured me he was ok. She just wanted to share with me, that a few days earlier he had helped her. Apparently, she had picked up a load of lumber and was transporting it home, via Trunk Road. The load shifted, slid off her truck and on to Trunk Road. By the time she got out of the truck, and to the back of it, my son had was putting the load back onto the truck. He asked the lady to drive home, and he would help her off-load the lumber. He put his bike on top of the lumber, and he did just that.

I was so glad she told, for two reasons;

1) It affirmed that I raised him well
2) I was able to let him know he
made a difference
It was split second timing, the lady would be at the bank, the same time as we were.

I was so happy for both of us.
The lady was gone, before he came out of the bank.

I am so happy the people who read about the elderly gentleman responded in such a positive way.
If all else fails one can use the Thank You, in the Classifieds. I have used used that route, more than once.

When I do good no one remembers and when I do bad no one forgets.
No need for that adage, in SSM

There are many "DO GOODERS" in Sault Ste Marie ON. I would like to take this opportunity to thank those, for the many times they offered assistance to me. This was before and after I had my hip replaced. I lost track of the times, I heard, "are you ok" "can I help you"
and "let me but that cart back for you"

This was in the dead if winter, or the lazy hot days of summer.

Thank you to all "DO GOODERS"
msdomi 8/19/2012 1:51:57 PM Report

Karebare you let him have it ! It's always nice to hear somebody doing something nice for others and to make themselves feel good also ! Good job !!!!
