26 forest fires currently burn in our region

A Restricted Fire Zone is currently in effect for the Northeast Fire Region, north of the French River including French River Provincial Park.

The restricted fire zone includes the MNR districts of Sudbury, North Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Timmins, Kirkland Lake, Hearst, Chapleau, Wawa, Cochrane and Manitoulin Island.

No open burning, including campfires is permitted within the boundaries of a restricted fire zone.

Portable heaters or propane stoves may be used for cooking and warmth but must be handled with extreme caution.

All burning permits are suspended.

Seven new fires have been confirmed thus far today in the Northeast Region in the areas of Algonquin Park, Chapleau, North Bay, Parry Sound, Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury and Algonquin Park.

Suppression efforts are ongoing at this time.

Sudbury 71, a 0.4 hectare fire is within the Lake Laurentian Conservation Area.

Air attack and Helitak actioned this fire yesterday, and fire rangers remain onsite continuing efforts.

The fire is currently under control.

Sudbury 72, was a 0.1 hectare fire that is now out.

Bancroft 20 is currently Under Control at 1 hectare in size.

Air attack was dispatched out of Muskoka yesterday to respond to this fire.

Timmins 34, a 1.5 hectare fire received suppression effort yesterday in the form of air attack.
 
This fire is currently being held.

Sudbury 73 is currently Being Held at 0.1 hectares and was actioned by air attack and ground crews yesterday.

A ground crew remains on site continuing suppression efforts on this fire classed as being held.

Sudbury 74, a 0.2 hectare fire received suppression support yesterday from air attack.

A ground crew remains on site today to continue suppression efforts.

Sudbury 75, a 0.1 hectare fire remains classed as not under control.

A ground crew on site continues suppression efforts.

There are currently 26 fires in the Northeast Region, burning 48,111 hectares.

To date, there have been 386 fires in the Northeast Region, having burnt 49,685 hectares.
