Fire hazard is high to extreme across the region

At the time of this report, nine new fires have been confirmed in the Northeast Region today.

These fires, all under 1 hectare in size, are in the areas of Hearst, North Bay, Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie and Chapleau.

Two of these fires have already been called out, while the rest are receiving suppression support at the moment.

Seven new fires were confirmed in the Northeast Region on July 10.

Bancroft 18 was a 0.1 hectare fire in the Shabomeka Lake area near Bon Echo Provincial Park.

The fire is now out.

Bancroft 19 is a 0.4 hectare fire in the Limerick Lake area.

The fire is currently under control.

Parry Sound 23 is a 0.1 hectare fire northwest of Muskoka that was actioned by the Twin Otters.

The fire is currently classed as not under control.

Sudbury 67 was a 0.1 hectare fire responded to air attack and is now out.

Sudbury 68 was a 0.1 hectare fire in the Bell Lake area of Killarney Provincial Park.

The fire is now out.

Kirkland Lake 21, a 0.5 hectare fire was actioned by Helitak and air attack and is now under control.

Cochrane 33, a 0.5 hectare fire on Big Island is receiving suppression support and is under control.

As the hazard is high to extreme across the region, a reminder to the public to use extreme care and caution in all outdoor activities during this high hazard time.

The MNR does not currently have a Restricted Fire Zone in place, however many municipalities do.

If you are contemplating the use of a campfire, please check with your local municipality for restrictions they may have in place.

There are currently 27 fires in the Northeast Region, burning 48,112 hectares.

To date, there have been 370 fires in the Northeast Region, having burnt 49,676.7 hectares.
