Elliot Lake mall collapse victims launch class action suit

Friday, July 06, 2012   by: SooToday.com Staff

A class action law suit has been filed on behalf of the victims of the tragic Algo Centre Mall roof collapse on June 23 that claimed the lives of Doloris Perizzolo and Lucie Aylwin.

More than 20 additional people sustained non-life threatening injuries when a portion of the mall's roof top parking lot fell through the structure.

Sources indicate the suit targets mall owners, the City of Elliot Lake and the Government of Ontario.

Ontario Provincial Police launched a criminal investigation into the incident earlier this week.

no doubt....not just puckering up but for once the governments gonna have to pay out for their faults instead of taking from those with way less than them. it's their ignorance that caused this to begin with. i lived there 8 years ago and that mall was falling apart back then....like WOW that's all i can say.

interesting, wonder why the City of Elliot Lake was not named as well. After all would they not be the first level of Gov. responsible for building safety etc.

Also, supposedly the building recently had an inspection by an engineering firm and they found nothing wrong. Why are they not named?

nevermind, miss read part of the article the city was named..
chichismom 7/7/2012 12:27:58 PM Report

yes, i do believe the inspection agency should be named. This suit seems to be too fast to base on actual facts though. Don't get me wrong, it should be filed! But getting a few more answers first might have made for more directed arguements, and maybe the inspection company being held liable also.
