Forest Fire Situation Update - Northeast Region
June 26, 2012 (15:30)
Two new fires have been confirmed thus far in the Northeast Region today.
Timmins 26 and Chapleau 22 are both currently listed as Not Under Control.
Progress continues on existing fires in the region.
Timmins 9 continues to be scanned for hot spots using an infra-red unit, while ground crews and bucketing helicopters continue to action the hotspots found.
Infra-red scans continue on Kirkland Lake fires 8 and 13 to ensure no new hot spots arise.
As the long weekend approaches, the hazard is expected to climb over the course of the week.
A reminder to take extra care when doing any outdoor activities or burning, as human carelessness proves to be a leading cause of fires.
As we plan to celebrate Canada Day, please remember that fireworks can easily ignite a fire.
