CITY POLICE NEWS RELEASE
*************************
On June 18, 2012, it was reported that members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service’s Street Team and Emergency Services Unit executed a search warrant in the 400 block of Korah Road.
It was reported that officers seized marihuana with an estimated street value of $243,000.
A total of 285 plants were seized in this investigation, however all of these plants can be described as seedlings that were in the initial stages of growth.
Although the current actual value of these plants is not clear, these plants, if cultivated to full size, have the potential to produce marihuana with a street value of $243,000.
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service will not tolerate the existence of illegal drugs in our community.
We will continue to aggressively seek out individuals responsible for trafficking these drugs in order to help provide a safer community for us all.

Dictionary 6/19/2012 4:59:35 PM ReportDear Police,
Quit wasting my money on weed!
AndyCap 6/19/2012 6:40:01 PM ReportHow the heck do 285 plants equal out to 280 some odd thousand dollars? Tiny seedlings at that. What a joke. This province needs to seriously re evaluate its priorities.
PF92 6/19/2012 6:51:03 PM ReportHaha, love the comments guys.
Police spending money on the one drug that, if you do it, you know is harmless and actually HELPS the world.
BUT.... it okay that my neighbor is a crack head, deal out of the house, has a 3 year old child, and constant traffic up and down my dead end street, because we need to get that pot off the streets you know?
Pathetic....
PF92 6/19/2012 6:55:09 PM Report Pot is NOT harmful to the human body or mind. Marijuana does NOT pose a threat to the general public. Marijuana is very much a danger to the oil companies, alcohol, tobacco industries and a large number of chemical corporations. Various big businesses, with plenty of dollars and influence, have suppressed the truth from the people.
Intwydimayla69 6/19/2012 6:58:52 PM ReportIf they are not going to tolerate it, why do we still have these pilons selling drugs? I've seen one supposed 'drug lord' making drops on more than one occassion in broad daylight and not a single cop anywhere to be seen. Surely they can manage to keep up with this geriatric enterprising individual and his rag tag following. Just sayin....
Guitar God!!! 6/19/2012 7:10:41 PM ReportI like how they say that the seeds have the 'potential' of producing $240,000 worth of weed.. When in fact, they were just in their initial stages of growth.. The seeds were 'just' planted.. They did not confiscate that amount of drugs it's just that the person 'had the potential' of producing that amount of drugs.......
I can't say whether weed can harm the body or not, because scientifically, I do not know... I went green a couple of times. Maybe it's harmful, maybe not, I dunno...
I'm more of an alcohol junkie.. Alcohol is completely harmless. 'It harms your liver'.. Righhtttt.. Please, that's what 'they' want you to believe...... Ok I'm being sarcastic..
dob131 6/19/2012 7:42:51 PM ReportSHUT UP !! THIS IS SO RIDICULOUS !!
jethrow 6/19/2012 9:25:19 PM ReportI just want to say if you have a crack head next door or watch drug drops you must be on it cause you havent reported it so enjoy your nieghborhood just my oppinion.
jowo60 6/19/2012 10:24:32 PM ReportShould marijuana be legalized? Should people have the right to grow a few plants or go out and buy some from the store?
Marijuana is not a drug, but rather a plan that grows naturally on earth. People smoking are only hurt them selves. The only crime that is being committed, happens to be through contributing to dealing!!!
I myself prefer to meet that shady character, who wont tell me his name in the allyway at night!
LEGALIZE MARIJUANA!
P.S I love the disgusting smoking labels on packs of smoke, when are they going to start plastering car accidents on beer and liquor bottle?
Shaun233 6/19/2012 10:42:29 PM ReportI just do a red green and duct tape over the disgusting pictures..people ask what are you smoking...i say 3M Silver King Size
zdc 6/19/2012 11:52:38 PM ReportI love the speculation on these sprouts
Did anyone estimate the chances of these plants dying in the next month... Or possibly this fella killing them by accident... These plants would then be worth nothing
50/50 chance of being worth a quarter million and 50/50 chance of being worthless
Hardly worth any applause boys
Couldn't wait it out a little bit, he wasn't selling tommorrow
It might of at least made an impressive picture opp
As for the comments from the green pros, it sounds like some real high society....or maybe something you'd hear straight out of Bum Town Ontario
cashcab 6/20/2012 7:46:47 AM ReportAs several people have commented, this is just the police patting themselves on the back for waisting the tax payers money.
Tens of thousands of dollars in wages, for a few pounds of pot.
283 seedlings.... After the guy pulls and throws away all the male plants, (Males will pollinate the females and then the females will put all there energy into producing seeds instead of bud.)How many of the females will accually survive and produce a full yield? Maybe 10%, Who knows? Just a guess, from what i've read.
I just think that our tax dollars could be better spent on things like youth programs and activities, to keep them busy and out of trouble and in the long run off drugs. The city probably could have funded a good chunk of the skate park for what they spent on keeping this potentially big crop of pot off the street!!!
Saultpolice 6/20/2012 8:32:32 AM ReportThank you all for your interest in this story. Dictionary..you posted quite wasting my money on weed. I'm not really sure what you mean but I can say that anytime we investigate an offence regardless of what it is, we do not view it as a waste of time or money. Intwydimayla69 I am interested in what you have said. Please if you are seeing drug deals in the street, contact us and let us know. Policing is an effort that requires the police and the community to work together. Jowo60 although I disagree with your arguments about legalizing marihuana....you did raise an interesting point about alcohol labels. However, that is not the issue at hand. I am happy to see our city taking an interest in the police department. Follow us @Saultpolice or at Facebook.com/ssmpolice
Saultpolice 6/20/2012 9:04:38 AM Reportcashcab....you posted that this was just the police patting themselves on the back for waiting the tax payers $. I have to disagree. Anytime we work to protect our community from violence and drugs it is not a waste of money. We are here to serve the citizens of this city and we will continue to do so...and we do not need a pat on the back to do it....we simply have a desire to better our community.
hunti 6/20/2012 10:01:48 AM ReportFirst of all to the officer responding to this story on MARIJUANNA bust,u best be going back to school and learn how to spell. Why don't u gather up all the people selling their meds, thats more dangerous than marijuanna. The police by the way inform the courts and public of how much they bust someone for.Everytime I have seen someone get busted for weed, the cops r saying that it is $20.00 a gram, so in this case what r they saying these seeds r a $1000 each, that is just crazy.I am not a marijuanna user, but do know that u would be way better off to be smoking marijuanna than to ever be smoking ciggs and or drinking alcohol.and oh ya what about cell phones, how many deaths or injuries. There r no death's when it come's to smoking marijuanna, but look up the statistics on alcohol, ciggs and cell phones, hundreds of thousands of people die every year.Worry more about people on meds than marijuanna, and for the people out there who r wondering if I don't smoke it how do I know so much about it,I learnt alot about it when I had cancer and that is would I smoked for the pain rather than taking meds that did not work and had many side effects including addiction, unlike marijuanna. So to the many officers who r so proud to bust people for marijuanna,go and get all the pill poppers off our streets, gang bangers, alcoholics, and people who want to text or talk and drive, because as statistics show there r no death's when it comes to marijuanna, but r plenty of deaths with all the other things I mentioned. Also cancer free for 10 yrs. This is a never ending story so someone please continue.....
Stevie-E 6/20/2012 10:21:38 AM Report@hunti
The report said "marihuana" and not marijuanna or whatever incorrect spelling you decided to use in your initial rant about fricking SPELLING. People like you make me laugh.
How about doing something for your community instead of typing on a computer if you feel so strongly about it? I am all for natural pain remedy, but it starts with the parents of these "pill-popppers" and "gang-bangers" and think the parents should spend a few nights in jail for their deadbeat children. Fact is, it was a drug bust and it prevented drugs on the street.
I am on the fence for legalizing MARIJUANA. I see the value in the government taxing it and using it a nice revenue stream to put the provinces back in the black. It's essentially the same as alcohol...just don't drive! It also would be probably better than illegally grown as well.
Some say it's a gateway drug, but don't really think that's completely true. It's based on the person's mindset and environment that determines whether they "need" to try something heavier. Education and parental involvement is key. Family values is lacking and that's why this city is full of petty criminals.
Saultpolice 6/20/2012 10:23:25 AM ReportHunti. thanks for your comments. Here is a link to an article that describes the dangers of maijuana use.http://cyber.law.harvard.edu/evidence99/marijuana/Health_1.html.
KDRH 6/20/2012 10:37:00 AM ReportI think it's even more of a waste of time and money to have the sault police sitting at a computer to comment on this post trying to justify their actions.
KDRH 6/20/2012 10:46:39 AM Report@saultpolice what about all the prescriptions that doctors prescribe to young children and everybody else for that matter with all the precautions of might cause sudden death or tempoary blindness. Seems like more of a crime than a couple pot plants. Than the justice system comes down so hard on people who "criminals" because of a lil bit of pot. All I'm saying is that prescription drugs and pot are both drugs according to the government but only one of the drugs seems to actually harm people. Not to mention that half of the sault police are crooked.
Saultpolice 6/20/2012 11:13:53 AM ReportKDRH. I am sorry you feel that way. One of our goals is to communicate with our public in order to provide accurate information. We are committed to transparancy with our organization. This is another way we can reach that goal. Thanks for your opinions
Intwydimayla69 6/20/2012 11:14:17 AM ReportWow! For lack of a better word. One would assume given the method of communication, most people would read their own response prior to its submission. Apparently they don't. You are also responding online, which provides several tools relating to the proper use of grammar and spelling. I'm sure if you are capable of researching all things related to 'pot', you can do this. Some semblance of intellectual fortitude creates a much more diverse culture and affords us a multitude of perspectives. Just sayin...
Intwydimayla69 6/20/2012 11:15:56 AM ReportSaultpolice....contact me.
AndyCap 6/23/2012 2:36:56 AM ReportSault Police..I find it commendable that you are defending your stance on the topic and that you are reading others views. You say that anytime you investigate an offense regardless of what it is that you do not view it as a waste of time or money, this can not be true. There must be times where you are saying "this is a complete waste of time" I understand that you have a job to and one that is necessary but I fail to see the logic when you say taking these seedlings off the street would protect our community from violence and drugs. This is a plant labeled as a drug and if legal would have no violence associated with it. You are certainly entitled to your opinion but I dont see how you can argue over legalization. Prohibition has never worked effectively. You post an ironically non existent link to the dangers of marijuana, I implore you to research cannabis a bit more and im confident that you will learn that yourself among many others have been duped into believing absolute falsehoods based on preconceived opinions vs actual facts. Do I believe that everyone should use marijuana? No I dont but I strongly believe that this country would benefit greatly if we shifted the energy and funds used to throwing people in jail over a plant onto something just and warranted. Uraguay realizes this and sooner or later so will the rest of the world.
