The John Rhodes track was packed tonight as the 2012 Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life got under way.
There, SooToday.com found all walks of life taking part in the annual cancer research fundraiser.
Including a giant chicken.
Most walkers of the human variety participated in the event to honour a loved one lost to cancer, including Kristi Doucette (pictured).
This is the second relay for the owner of Brighter Minds Montessori, who walks in memory of her father, Rene LeClair.
He lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on December 18, 2009.
Will she take part in the walk for as many years as she possibly can?
"Hell yea!" she told us. "It's for a great cause."
As the largest funder for cancer research in Canada, the Canadian Cancer Society's Relay For Life provides funds that contribute to their goal of eradicating cancer and improving the lives of those afflicted with the disease.
At the time of writing, teams registered online in Sault Ste. Marie had raised a total of $64,846.49 for the cause.
The top five online Sault Ste. Marie teams are Team Roadhouse, Island Girls, Relay For Ray, Midnight Paradise, and the Soo Greyhounds.
The event includes more than just walking.
Vendors, spectator activities, and live entertainment will continue until 7 a.m. when the 2012 Relay For Life draws to a close.
