Orazietti announces $700,000 for local roadway improvements

Province continues to invest in connecting link infrastructure upgrades in Sault Ste. Marie

SAULT STE. MARIE - The province is continuing to make significant investments in local infrastructure with an additional $700,000 for road and highway improvements to connecting links in Sault Ste. Marie, David Orazietti, MPP announced today.

“The province is continuing to make substantial investments in Sault Ste. Marie’s infrastructure because we understand the importance of safe and reliable roads and we are working closely with the city to ensure they are properly maintained,” said Orazietti. “As local residents know, good highways are vital to northern communities and our ongoing support for new and improved connecting links has the added benefit of promoting economic activity as well as helping to build a strong community.”

The additional $700,000 in provincial funding is from Ontario’s Connecting Link program, which enables municipalities to repair roadways that connect two ends of a provincial highway through an urban area.

The funding from today’s announcement will be used to make improvements to Highway 17, Second Line East widening and the intersection at Second Line and Pine Street.

"These dollars will ensure the community benefits from increased work respective to the identified projects,” said Debbie Amaroso, mayor of Sault Ste. Marie. “During a time of economic restraint we are appreciative of the Province's decision to continue to invest in projects important to our City."
