People in Sault Ste. Marie seeking pharmaceutical treatment now have a new option.

Walmart opened their newest pharmacy on Monday in the Station Mall.

Chau Ma (shown), pharmacist-manager for the new outlet, said they will offer all the services of a traditional pharmacy - plus some new extras.

"We'll offer everything a pharmacy would, and more," said Ma. "For example, our new blood pressure machine is top-of-the-line technology."

For the new blood pressure machine, people can buy a smart card (costs $5) which keeps track of their blood pressure every time they use the machine during a one-year period.

A user could then bring the card to his/her doctor, who can access blood pressure information through it.

Ma said the pharmacy will offer the same sales as any Walmart and staff will make every effort to make sure customers' needs are met.

"We will have the same great deals any Walmart would have, we just don't have as wide of a selection because of our size," said Ma.  "However, we can always order in products for patients should they request."

Ma, who has been a pharmacist for 10 years, said the new pharmacy will employ three full-time pharmacists.

The Walmart pharmacy will be open 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday to Friday, Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday noon to 5 p.m.
