Charges galore follow RIDE check stop on Hwy 17

RIDE check leads to several charges

Driver under suspension

GARDEN RIVER, ON - On June 3 at approximately 4:30 p.m., OPP were conducting RIDE spot checks on Highway 17 in Garden River.

A black Chevrolet pickup truck was stopped.

When the male driver was asked for his driver’s license he indicated that he did not have it with him and identified himself verbally.

Further investigation revealed that the driver was not who he said he was and was under a driving suspension.

A small quantity of cannabis marijuana was also located in the vehicle.

A check of the license plate revealed the plates to the vehicle were attached to another vehicle.

Twenty-five year-old Damien Sharpe  of 1288 Government Road, Laird Township was arrested and charged with:

• One count of Personation with Intent contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

• One count of Possession of A Schedule II Substance, contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substance Act

• Three counts of Drive under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

• One count of drive motor vehicle not in accordance with permit limitations

• One count of fail to have insurance card

• One count of fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle.

The accused was released on a promise to appear for court in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on July 9, 2012.
