OPP investigate shooting

Male shot with 12-gauge shotgun

OLSEN TWP, ON –  At approximately 1:40 a.m., on Sunday, June 3, 2012, Sault Ste. Marie OPP and Batchewana First Response were dispatched to a shooting incident on Adelaide Lake in Olsen Township, north of Sault Ste. Marie.

Four males were staying at a camp on Adelaide Lake the evening of June 3, 2012.

At approximately 12:15 a.m., two males were on the outside deck of the camp when one of the males went to retrieve a 12-gauge shotgun from the camp. 

When he returned to the deck, the firearm discharged striking a 24-year-old Sault Ste. Marie man in the upper right thigh area.

One of the other males drove his ATV to the nearest residence and called for help.

The male was transported to the nearest road (Mile 38) by Batchewana First Response and further by Sault Area Ambulance to hospital.

The victim is being treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries and remains in hospital.

The investigation is continuing.

No foul play is suspected.
