Appointment of medical advisor at Algoma Residential Community Hospice

The Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Sharon Buehner as medical advisor.

In this role, Dr. Buehner will advise the Board on best practices in end of life care and will support ongoing learning opportunities related to hospice palliative care.

“This is an important role which is recognized as best practice,” states Bill Walker, ARCH Board chair. “We are pleased to have Dr. Buehner join our Board. She is a longstanding champion of palliative care and we look forward to her continued leadership at ARCH.”

“Our hospice is so important to give dying patients who cannot stay at home a high quality care option,” states Dr. Buehner. “It is a real privilege to serve in this role at such a wonderful place. Our community really does understand the importance of ARCH.”

Algoma Residential Community Hospice is a registered charity that has been providing end-of life care since September 2008.

Nurses, physicians, personal support workers, spiritual caregiver and trained volunteers provide quality care to residents in a10-bed hospice.

The Hospice also offers bereavement support to families following the death of their loved one.

ARCH is partially funded by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

Approximately $600,000 must be raised each year to support ongoing operations.
