Blasting down Mile Hill leads to impaired charge

(Aweres Twp., ON) – On Saturday, April 28, 2012 at approximately 3:00 pm a Sault Ste. Marie OPP officer on patrol on Highway 17 north and observed a southbound tractor trailer passing a car coming down the Mile Hill at an excessive rate of speed.

The vehicle was stopped and further investigation revealed that the driver had been consuming alcohol.

The trailer was loaded with a cargo of approximately 20,000 lbs of mail packages.

Sixty-five year old James HOPKINS of Elora, Ontario was arrested and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle with over 80 milligrams of alcohol contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada, Speeding and Having Open Liquor in a motor vehicle.

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear for Provincial Court in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, on May 28, 2012.
