Essar Algoma Steel worker seriously injured

An employee of Essar Steel Algoma was injured on the job last Wednesday, company Manager - Corporate Communications Brenda Stenta confirmed today. "An Essar Steel Algoma employee was injured in our Stores facility on April 18," Stenta said.

"An Essar Steel Algoma employee was injured in our Stores facility on April 18," Stenta said. "He was transferred to the Sault Area Hospital, where he remains for treatment."

SooToday.com learned the injuries sustained by the employee are serious but not apparently life-threatening.

"The Ministry of Labour was notified and is investigating," said Stenta. "The company is also currently investigating."

The circumstances surrounding the workplace accident have not been reported, nor have the nature of the worker's injuries.
