On April 24, 2012 at noon, Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services responded to a derailed locomotive that was leaking diesel fuel in the area of Carmen’s Way and Hudson Street.

The locomotive, operated by Huron Central Railway, was moving freight cars into Huron Central’s yard when it jumped a rail switch causing a large gash in the fuel tank.

Multi agencies coordinated their efforts to bring the leak under control.

Fire Services’ personnel were on scene cleaning up the diesel spill until approximately 5 p.m.

The scene was turned over to Huron Central authorities at that time.
